Heh! I'll start it!

I've been diagnosed with type 2 since 1999. I have been on Insulin since 2005. Doesn't slow me down at 63! I control very easy by monitoring regular and meds. I am on Levamir with glucophage as a supplement. (was on post study group on Levamir right after FDA approval)
Anybody else? or...next!

back on insulin

First let me say this, I am from Winnipeg Canada but i am currently living in South Korea teaching English, I will be home on June 5th. I have been controlling my diabetes with diet and exercising, but then the past 3 weeks I had a nasty virus, and it took a lot out of me. my sugars sky rocketed and i am now back on insulin and also taking a pill each day. I had been 7 years since I have been on meds so it is a bit of an adjustment. I hope this is just a blip and I will be off the meds soon.

RE: back on insulin

On Metformin (and a new drug called Januvia) and supplementing with insulin twice a day. My sugars are generally manageable, but I was diagnosed at age 32 and it is difficult to adjust to the change in diet. My issue isn't so much sweets as it is carby stuff-particularly potatoes and rice!!

RE: Heh! I'll start it!

I was diagnosed when I was 17. I am 52 and have been expereincing the classic symtoms of not controlling my diabetes. Most of my life I was in denile. Knumb and tingling feet toes etc.. pain in my legs, and now my hands are starting the same thing. I was sort of ok with the it until it started effecting my guitar playing. Hard to play guitar if you can't feel your fingers and god forbid loos them. Anyway I'm telling this for not sympathy but want to spread the word. If you're young and don't think it'll matter, regading control.... you're wrong. Take care of yourself, while you still can.

Well, as I get older, my insulin usage climbs. Of course, being sedentary as we keep Gr Kids doesn't help! When active and outside, I am good with control1
