Polar Bare--lady with the clipboard
At the last Polar Bare Plunge this past January (2015), there was a woman with a clipboard going around collecting email addresses, presumably for a contact list for future Polar Bare Plunges.
Does anybody know who that was?
The word is that the group that used to spearhead the plunges, the FOGs (Friends of Gunnison) has disbanded. She was putting together a list to try to keep the plunges going.
I'd hoped that I'd get an email from her, soon afterwards. But I haven't heard a thing.
I come up from Washington DC, and I'd like to be sure the thing is happening before I make the trip. If I get there and nothing is happening, I suppose there's no law against my stripping down and throwing myself in. But I'm getting to an age where I don't want to do that without people there who could help if necessary. I do go up with a lady friend (who keeps her clothes on; she's there to take pictures of me naked). But if I jump in and have a medical emergency, she probably couldn't do much more than call 911.
The woman with the clipboard isn't likely to call in August. She would probably call when the day gets closer.Sorry, I can't help you, as for who she is. I have not been to any of the polar bear plunges.
Well, yes, I was hoping she'd contact the list in January, soon after she made it. I didn't hear anything then. So from time to time, I've been reposting the questions in several Gunnison Beach forums.
I've heard or polar bear swims, but didn't know that there was one at Gunnison Beach. I'd love to participate if possible.Dave
Well, that's the problem; I don't know if there will be any more. That woman was looking to keep it going. I know they're the first Sunday in January, but I don't want to go up unless I'm sure it's going to happen. The one this year, I found out for sure just a few days before it happened.
I hoped the lady with the clipboard would get back to us soon after--just to establish contact. She didn't, and I'm wondering, is she just waiting until near the event (in which case, will I find out early enough to maybe persuade some friends to come along)? Did she not get enough names and emails to make the effort worthwhile? Did the paper come off her clipboard and blow into the ocean? Is she reading one letter wrong in my own email?
