Naked woman by Modigliani censored
Censored by Bloomberg, CNBC bluring her breast and pubis, the Financial Times puting a black strip on the same place, in may Fox News censored " Les Femmes d'Alger" ( Picasso), etc. and I forgot certainly mainy others.Do you thing all of that is good for nudism ?If art is censored, how the living could be free in a such country ?
The painting is titled "Nu Couche" and is a tasteful depiction of a beautiful woman. Whether it is good or bad for nudism I think is irrelevant. Blurring the painting is most definitely not good for art. I wonder if these people are playing to the lowest common denominator when it comes to outcry, just looking for the fewest complaints, or if they believe that more people would be offended by showing all of the painting. Just wonder what they would do with the Sistine Chapel.
At one time the artwork in the Sistine Chapel and other Sacred art was painted over to hide the nudity. When the Sistine Chapel art work was restored in recent years, the overpaint was removed and the offending parts were exposed for all to see. (I wonder if God was offended by seeing His work.) Fortunately these overpaints could be removed because a fresco is created by painting the wet plaster so the original paint is embedded into the plaster. The overpaint is just on top of the plaster. I am all for the concept of keeping the original art in tact.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, they are responding to the complaints and the problem is that no one or very few are calling or writing to complain about the censorship even though we as nudists and I'm sure the art community and many others that enjoy art are disgusted by the censorship but just accept it by saying well they need to because of the FCC, sponsors or whatever.
Neo-conservatism, gaining ground all over the world. If current and future artists aren't cowered by this cultural fascism, and they remember it's part of their remit to push boundaries, and say 'no' when the climate dictates they say 'yes', then I think we'll be alright.
But then, being an optimist and a romantic, I would say that. The reality is probably far bleaker. And on that cheery note ...have a nice day!
