Hot tub recommendations?
Hot tub recommendations?Hi all. I'm in the market for a hot tub. I live alone, have a secluded yard, and do like to have friends over. I'm thinking a six person tub, but would like input from people who have hot tubs or who know hot tubs. What size do you recommend and what brand and model do you recommend. Why? How has your hot tub worked out for you? Thanks,Tim Aka findinout
Well I can tell you one tub not to buy and that would be a Cal Spa. I have 1 now and pretty much everything that could go wrong with it did go wrong with it. From the pump which they do not support anymore to the circuit board. We bought this back when we lived in Minnesota and the people that bought our house did not want it so we moved it out of there and took it down here. The motor went out and Cal Spa said oh you moved it we no longer warranty it after 1.5 years. So right now I've been having problems with the pump they replaced it instead of two wet ends I only have one wet end pump and it doesn't work all that great. Thinking of buying a new one here also.
We have a Royal Spa and we love it. It's very well made, well insulated, and reliable. Ours is a 6-person model which works well when we have playmates over. We also had one of the jets installed as a "best friend jet" for my wife and her girlfriends. It's a great way to get the evening started!
My new hot tub got here yesterday... It's made by Master Spas and called the Clarity Spa Balance 7. All the reviews I've read are fantastic, can't wait for the electrician to wire it up... The old one went bad 6 years ago, wife finally gave the green light..
I was poster #2 in this thread. Can't believe that was five years ago. But thought I would pop back in to give a little follow up on my experience.
I wanted a nice tub but also wanted to be able to move it to a new location if/when I sold my home and bought something else. So I wanted something somewhat portable or at least something I could move myself if I had to. I considered the blow up types but decided I wanted a solid shell, jets with a strong pump, and seats. That kind of thing. So basically a conventional tub but just smallish. So I shopped for a four person tub. Turns out there are quite a few.
Long story short, I ended up buying a Freeflow Cascina. It's small but a four seater with 17 jets and it's worked out perfectly for what I wanted. Easy set up and maintenance. Just plugs into a 120V receptacle and has its own GFCI plug. It's solid as can be and extremely well insulated. I barely notice the difference in my power bill. So I've been really pleased with it. I haven't moved it yet but that's still in the plan. I'm thinking I may hire 3 or 4 high school offensive linemen to help load it onto my trailer. I watched the movers when it was delivered and there are no tricks or secrets to moving and setting it up. Just a level surface, add water, and plug it in. Easy peasy.
Having said that, a four seater works fine for 2 average size adults but 4 adults, especially if they're larger than average, need to be really close friends. Not only would social distancing be a problem but if the water level was normal, four average+ people getting in would probably run it over the top. So I suggest lowering the water level a little before you try that.
Anyhow, this thing has worked out great for five years now. And it's well built enough to last plenty more.
Sorry I took so long for the follow up :-)
We bought a house 10 years ago with a Hotsprings Grandee that is now 30 years old. The heater went up and the tiles have all fallen off so we have just ordered a new Hotsprings Vanguard. It wont be in until may/June. Has anyone else recently ordered a hot tub with an extended delivery time?

I've had my Bullfrog spa for about 15yrs now. I looked at and tried several different spa manufacturers before deciding on Bullfrog. I liked that I could customize the spa using different jet packs. They were the only one at the time to have an online app to suggest the jet pack placement in the shell for the most power. Three years ago I converted to mineral salt water. I really like the way my skin feels after done soaking. Plus once I've balanced the water, very little maintenance afterward.
I bought a Coleman Saluspa about a month ago and so far I love it. Will upgrade to something more perm when I find a good price. This spa is basic. Heat, bubbles, plug and play. With the bubbles running, it is loud.
Should see the power bill damage in a week or so. I keep it at 102F in N. Alabama. when it gets down into the 30's I only use it once a day but otherwise twice when time allows.
Anyway, for a ~$500 US hot tub I think it's great.
It appears almost all Hot Tubs are extended delivery. Most everyone is out of stock. The earliest I've seen for anything other than a inflatable is Mid March '21. What surprises me is it doesn't seem anyone does setup. Ship to the curb and you're on your own. One would think for $8 - 12K the company would at least set it up. (Add another $1K for a 240 power install).
