Your favorite beach or cove?
Hello,
We are heading to St. Martin mid May and looking for some private beaches or coves. We are staying 5 minutes from Orient beach but we always try and find the not so popular beaches or private coves to unwind. Happy Bay and Cupecoy beach are definitely on the list so far!
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks!
St Martin/St Maartan is a pretty densly populated island. In years past, I have bicycled the perimeter of the island (42 miles) MANY times when I boxed up my bike for the air trip and stayed 10-12 days at Club Orient. The Dutch side is all textile. There are a couple hotel properties on the French side where less clothing is permissible but, for the most part, they're not very nice beaches. Even Orient Bay is nude only at Club Orient with a couple permissible places further north on the Bay. The island off of Orient Bay Beach Club is nude possible but you need to charter some craft to get there and back.
We are staying at a small Villa that will be c/o but looking for the ocean and smaller crowds.
We are willing to hike but being able to bring a cooler/beer would be favorable.
Cupecoy is on the Dutch side butappears to be c/o?

Cupecoy was the best! The day we were there there was only one other couple on the entire beach. There are some secluded areas too if that's what you're looking for. Baie rouge was great, but Orient Beach was very busy with tourists. Dawn beach was great but only topless. Pinel island is spectacular although we weren't able to get there.hope this helps!
If you're staying near Orient, Happy Bay is closer than Cupecoy. You will need to drive along a poorly maintained dirt road and park behind Friar's before hiking over the hill to get to Happy Bay. There usually isn't many folks there and you can be by yourself for the most part. We have always liked Cupecoy. We didn't make it there on our trip in February for many reasons. The conditions vary every day at Cupecoy. Some days there is a large beach and other there is no sand. Some days have crowds, but other days, you may be the only ones there. We've experienced both. You should check it out at least once. Neither Happy Bay or Cupecoy have the crowds that frequent Orient.
Thanks for all the advice! Happy Bay is close to us so plan to spend some weekdays there. Also learned starting May, only 1 cruise ship comes to port daily and no cruise ship comes to port on Monday. Monday will definitely be our first Orient Beach Day.
