Normalize the human body.

I saw a post on, of all places, Facebook, not that long ago. It went something as follows
"Why can't friends be nude around each other, take showers together or swim nude together,
Or send nude selfies when they're feeling confident without it being weird?
Why must everything be sexualized?
Why can't we just be comfortable in our own skin and leave it at that?
NORMALIZE THE HUMAN BODY GODDAMMIT!"

The way I see it. The human body has always been normal. The human brain has to be normalised. The way it thinks and the way it acquires knowledge and information. Education of the brain needs to start young teaching that the human body is not something that needs to be hidden.

We are All beautiful in our infinite variety of differences.
When, where, why and by whom the general populace was taught that the human body was an immorality to be seen naked, I for one Will never understand.

What are your thoughts and/or possible answers.

I've had conversations about this many times with many nudists. It's a complex combination and interweaving of evolvingsocial mores, religious and political climates, cultural shifts, economic conditions, etc... Break down one component/cause; and 10 others spring up. It's like a rabbit hole.

  1. What made nudity more accessible "back in the day" was necessity. In ancient Greece for example, it was just easierto exercise, or do manual labornude because ofthelimitation on clothing; as well as the climate and culture. Now we don't have to do anything nudebecause we can have an outfit forevery occasion.

  2. You can also see this in "nudeprimitive cultures" that up until recently went nude through a lifetime. That has changed astechnology has extended its reach; and nowtheseculturesaremoreand moreopting to be covered.

  • I wish I had an answer or solution. Modern-day attempts at normalizing nudity have failed becausethey've been compartmentalized and relegated to "alternative lifestyle." They only affect the few people that have chosen to walk that path.

  1. Personally, I think nudity is becomingmore and more of a "fringe" option. That may change in a generation ortwo, as technology becomesso omnipresent that more and morepeoplechoose to go back to "basics."

RE: Normalize the human body.

Naturism will always be considered to be a aberration by society unless naturists engage in more activism. We have essentially no political power because most of us are reluctant to identify ourselves as naturists to the rest of society. Outside the naturist community there probably are very few who actually know what a naturist is. Since most folks think that nudity equals sex they assume that naturism must be some sort of sexual perversion which should be avoided. We are much too willing to be marginalized and too reluctant to stand up for our lifestyle.

RE: Normalize the human body.

People need to wear cloths to put on a facade or a false front. They need fine clothes to set them apart and above their fellow man. Jewelry also plays a big part in this. They need to show that they are better than everyone else. Women are particularly vulnerable to this always needing the latest fashions and the best cosmetics. Nudism is a great equalizer and some people's egos are just too big to accept that.

Yes, but that it the media and advertising telling us we need to be
better so we will buy there stuff. If the media showed nudity
being normal and advertisers were selling sunscreen and sandals
instead of clothes and jewelry then nudity and the human body would
be normalized.

The ones that really get me are the religious Christians that say
it is wrong or disgusting (I am a Christian but see
it the opposite). If God made us and he made us into his
image then saying the naked body is wrong or disgusting is saying
that God's creation is wrong ang disgusting thus insulting God. The
Bible tells us that Adam and Eve sinned and were sent from the
garden and God made them clothes to protect them. Some say
they wore clothes to hide their sin. Either way, Jesus died
on the cross for our sins. As long as we try to follow him
then we should not have shame.
