Laws on nudity in Illinois.
There is no state law against public nudity in Illinois. Indecent
exposure requires as an element of the offense there be acts that
are for sexual gratification or arousal. So you must be doing
something obviously sexual. . But, most local municipalities
do have a law against public nudity. Ill State beach is governed by
state law so one should be ok. But if you are "upsetting others"
then disorderly conduct laws can apply. Also local park rules can
prohibit nudity. Bottom line, if they want to chase you away they
will!
UPDATE: There is a state statute making it a misdemeanor to be nude at Illinois State Beach. Be careful
Last year at Illinois State Beach there was signage stating no nude sunbathing. It was on the south side of the parking lot by the nature center. Of course there was nude sunbathing but watch out for the rangers and be smart about it. There is another thread going here with a bunch of info/observations from the last couple of years.
I understand IL law to be written the same as you. However I've been very careful in pushing the limits being as how 1st the cop must agree with you (not likely) as well as the judge (even less likely). My hometown nudist group lost a public nude beach when people started abusing the area with other acts. Then someone who had not heard of the closing got arrested simply swimming nude and must now register as a sex offender. A big price for an all over tan.

That sign has been there for at least 25 years, probably longer.
