Just curious...
This strikes me as just another gimmick by a few people with a
political agenda. ... There has been a lot of talk, recently,
about who should use which restroom. ... Isn't there already
such a thing as a unisex restroom where anyone can use a
private room or stall... Haven't they been
around for many years... I often see these rooms at "Rest
Areas" on interstate highways ... so, why is this suddenly a
national issue - -a national dilemma- - now?
Is this also a nudist issue?
The controversy comes up with existing facilities where there are two restrooms and no room or money to install a third. So owners want to protect against liability of an assault happing in a restroom if a male dressed as a female uses the womens restroom.
I know this sounds obvious, but criminals do not pay any attention
to the law. If they intend to assault someone, it doesn't
matter what it says on a restroom door. So, unless the
stalls are open -- have no doors -- it's just like a men's room
with the urinals, isn't it? I have no desire to offend
someone, but it's really just two different rooms for the same
purpose, isn't it... And men's rooms are clearly not private in
parts of them, so it would seem that men would have a bigger issue
with sharing a room, as they are currently designed, than women
would. ... Other than privacy issues, am I missing something?
If you want to change the way society thinks... start with
something small ... then make greater demands later. ... That
sounds like the definition of ... conditioning. The question
is, what is the ultimate goal of that conditioning?
This is a problem that is mostly confined to the United States. In many parts of the developed world, joint restrooms are common and often the only choice. I know of a lady who, while washing her hands after using the facility, had a man walk up and use the urinal which was right next to the sink she was using. There was no divider between the sink and the urinal. She was shocked but the man seemed to take it as normal. This is why nudism is mostly condemned in the United States. Too many people are shocked by it.
Sometimes I forget that this is an international blog... I was
referring to the U.S. for that specific case , but
also, the way some minorities try to bully everyone else --
anywhere else -- into accepting the the viewpoint of that
particular minority. ... so, my real point was... the
restroom controversy is about more than just who uses
which room.

yawanna bet he was just waiting for a woman to use that sink?

So, let me see if I understand this correctly... Nudism in the U.S. is condemned because a building contractor in Europe does not put divider walls where they belong... Is that the consensus? 8-/ ;-) ... Just kidding... I know what you meant. ... but, IMHO, it is just a conditioned response... started from an early age.
Here is my 2 cents as an American with mainly libertarian views that have been shaped by an engineering mind.
As for restrooms themselves. Ones with a single toilet have a lock on the door and is one person at a time. So a non issueMany small places of business including restaurants have a single toilet.
As for restroom with multiple stalls I cannot see much of an issue. Each stall has a door so there is privacy when male or female drops their drawers to do number 2
As for men standing at urinals , you would be hard pressed to find someone who has not seen a movie or tv show that has 2 men standing side by side taking a piss? So what if a woman sees a guy from behind while walking to a stall? I have many a time in my travels taken a leak at a urinal while a female attendant has mopped the floor. No big deal to me.
The unresolved part is locker rooms. I can see why non enlightened about nudism folks might be uncomfortable with changing clothes in a mixed setting. This is mainly an issue at schools so you do have the under age issue.
Thanks for that comment DesertRat.
Simple-Life: If you will look closely at what I actually said
above, you will see I said only some people in small
minorities are bullies. But the term could also apply to certain
other, larger minority groups... which shall remain nameless,
here... They often demand that everyone else agree with their
personal agenda... and some just agree, rather than fight ... Some
small businesses have even been forced out of
business, because they could not afford to fight...
At no time did I suggest that any nudists were bullies or
making unreasonable demands. ... I tried to be
specific. Please do not assume things which I did not
say.
