Can we know how many naturism followers or nudists exist in Australia?

I wanted to see if anyone here had any statistics on the naturist population in Australia. It seems to be emergent and was growing as of the 2010s, based on information that I read earlier.
I think it is interesting to see if this question can be answered, easily or with difficulty, so if anyone has time, that seems like an interesting thing to learn in spare time, that is, if anyone is not terribly busy.
I might follow-up with my own post if I later get better information. I probably will look later this week or before December 2024.
So, without further delay, just a few things I would think would be relevant to determining how many naturism people live in Australia:
1) Definition of Australia (Territories, Norfolk Island, Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria State, and Tasmania) (Easy to define with proper populations)
2) estimates or records for Total Population of Australia the nation or for each state or territory (I can easily retrieve from Wikipedia or the CIA World Factbook, or the Australian Census records.)
3) Population in the year 2024 for Australians registered to the Australian associations for naturism. (Australian Naturists (if that is the name), and so on.)
4) Other estimates of how many Australians in 2024 practice or have heard of naturism or nudist practices. Polls would indicate some surveys, and other records or sources indicating responses of Australians to naturism wold be good to establish how popular is naturism.
No answer is the wrong answer, it helps to have respect and collaboration over this.
I will post my response to my own post here in the original post on December Second. I will be looking into some research on my own in the meantime.
Anything that might impart knowledge on how the culture really is in Australia, with a respectful or otherwise impartial literary "tone" or style of writing, might complete the picture of Australia's people and of the naturists in Australia.
And yes, Australia has millions of people living in it.
And has much to offer in culture and food and other goods and tourism.
Australia is a beautiful place in many areas, including, among other areas or places, Tasmania.
The Blue Mountains are also nice.
Western Australia also has some very nice places that are in that state.
I could go on, but there are many other nice and interesting places in Australia.

Yes a good question and one Id be interested in knowing the answer, I think a good start point would be the ANF (for state) and or the INF (for national).My guess is the legitimate nudist/naturist would be members of one or both organisations, add to that a percentage for non aligned people..ie those who only practice the lifestyle within the privacy of their own homes and you'd probably come out close to the mark.Good luck with this one, Stay nude Stay safe.
I'm not sure about the POV that legitimate nudists/naturists would be members ....think that is misguided because to use a parallel POV - I have lost count of how many Aussie nudies I have talked to that don't even know this website exists. What this tells me is a lot of our fellow nudies do not care for organised forms of nudism or online activity.

To help the statistics:
The recent Spencer Tunik photo shoot in Brisbane attracted more than 5000 naked people. These people were ostensibly drawn from SEQ and NENSW. Say 10% from further afield as a tacit assumption.
Apparently 9 out of 10 Australian pool owners swim naked in their pool at some time. Not sure how many pools are in Australia...
My son on Christmas day revealed that his best friends parents are nudists, and we've known them for 20years and did not know this. Apparently when he was first knowledgeable of his mates parents nudism, his mate said "everyone in Australia has a nudist neighbour and if they don't then they themselves are the nudist"....

Simple definitions are best. Any person who participates in any activity while nude with exclusion of transition of ones attire or when taking a bath or shower or participating in sexual activity.
I kind of get tired of POV that say a nudists is this or that, does it here or there, only if they leave the house, can't be seasonal. Lets face it anybody who does fit my definition is welcome amongst us whether literally or any other way
Yes, the good definitions are clear, simple definitions, that capture what is best being attempted to be described.
I will go with definitions posted about :
Who claims to actively participate in acts in naturism, which shall merely be "any activity while nude with exclusion of transition of ones attire or when taking a bath or shower or participating in sexual activity."
Who searches Google for the term "Naturism" in a given year.
Who gives sites of naturist activity in the open world in Australia the time to Regularly Visit in any year.
Who gives sites of naturist activity in the open world in Australia the time to regularly visit cumulatively over the years.
I think these are good, and I thank everyone for suggestions. I will add these to other statistics I have mentioned. I think shifting the definition to "non-exclusively-sexual nudity" done "in any activity in any way that is not bathing or showering or changing clothes or attire" is a great addition. So thank you so much for the input.
I will list these different statistics to contrast with the older statistics I previously mentioned with the new statistics. The format in this way is to to contrast "Old Statistics" with "new statistics" of different measurements of participation.

Not sure how to answer some of your questions. Your state territory definitions are fine, the Oz population is around 26 million (check the most recent census) but how you determine nudist numbers (naturists or whatever you choose, some people may say they are a naturist but not a nudist) and how many nude places, lord only knows. Good luck, if you work out some numbers that would be interesting.
In my experience nudist numbers at the beach have fallen since I started going in the 1980's. Lots less people now, not many women, mostly men. At the start of each summer here in Victoria I tend to see groups of younger women trying it out, mostly topless and in thong type bikinis, some get naked, they seem to find safety in numbers which if fair enough. But that reduces over the summer. I see a few younger couples but not the numbers there used to be. Just my observations.
Between 200,000 regular and 3.4M occasional nudists and naturists in Ozland.
Using average global stats from the various organisations, outside Europe, around 12.75% of the population participates in naturist activities occasionally. ( that would represent 3.4M Aussies)
Around 1.9% of the population are regular nidists / naturists. (513,000 Aussies)

Its an interesting observation, jorgerine, but I think the perception of ulterior motives may stem from misunderstandings about naturism rather than reality. Most naturists embrace the lifestyle for its simplicity, body positivity, and connection to naturevalues that are far from secretive or inappropriate.
The reason many naturists arent visibly active is often about privacy, societal stigma, or their preference to participate in spaces where they feel safe and respected. Naturism unfortunately attracts some misconceptions, which can discourage people from being more open about it.
While there have undoubtedly been rare cases of individuals behaving inappropriately under the guise of naturism, they dont represent the community as a whole. True naturists value respect, inclusivity, and personal freedom, not ulterior motives. Its worth considering that the vast majority are just quietly enjoying the lifestyle without the need for public visibility
