Why I am what I am
Return to DiscussionsAfter one of my Forum posts on another subject, a religious (Christian) member wrote to me and asked why I identify myself as atheist. His question certainly seemed sincere, so I wrote back with an answer. In time, though, I wondered if I could give a more complete answer. BTW - you did not give names, but I know who the question came from simply by the small quote you included. They have a limited vocabulary when describing their objections to evolution.

I just reply I'm an ateist becaus I'm sane.
All of your comments on this subject make me feel a lot better. I have a lot of friends who are fully persuaded that if they miss church, and do not DONATE a good portions of their earnings to the church they will go straight to Hell. They often ask me what church I go to (of course theirs is the best) so I make up some answer. You better not tell them you are Atheist, agnostic, or naturist, or you will be promptly given a lecture on how you need to change your direction immediately . Of course there is the people that have been told the sky is falling for many many years and they still buy it. You know I was born and my parents was told when I was 6 y.o. I would not live to be 18 y.o because of a screwed up set of genetics I was born with. That part is correct, you know what I am 60 y.o. now and if my world ends tomorrow it is ok with me. None of us that I know of is getting any younger. Everyones world will end just as it has since the evolution of man and before. No big deal. Live happy simple lives and enjoy everyday, and be kind to your fellow man..
