Breaking our own every other year rule
Return to DiscussionsWe had originally planned to just go on the Bare Necessities
cruises every other year, but for a combination of new ports we had
been talking about going to even before becoming nudists (Aruba,
Bonaire, and Curacao) and a second year in a row with Carnival (who
don't seem to be as freaked out about the nudity). So we went ahead
and booked for 2018 as well. We are in cabin 6203, one of the
forward facing cabins with a picture window opening onto a public
balcony. BN has an early-bird sale with $100/pp discount.
We're booked in 7342. Bare Necessities seems to think Carnival is more fun than Celebrity. Hopefully, they don't provide bathrobes. Those were a real turn off on this year's cruise.
The Carnival Freedom had bathrobes in 2013. The crew seemed better able to cope with nudists than the Constellation crew in 2015, although we heard that the Connie crew was better in 2016.
We heard that, too. I actually felt sorry for the photographers on formal nights. A few of them looked like they wished we'd either all go away or put some clothes on. We wanted a specific background and the guy at that one was actually hiding behind it! There was no line and I walked up to him and handed him my sea pass and the wrap my wife was wearing. For a minute I thought he was going to pass out. He took a few good pictures, one good enough for us to pay $25 for it.

We haven't tried having formal pictures done nude yet. We haven't seen very many being taken and aren't really trendsetters in that regard. Maybe if we found a photographer who was already taking nude photos of others we would join the line. We have joined in for the group photo as well as the pre-cruise group photo at Haulover.

I would guess a Carnival crew sees more wild behavior on a textile cruise than a Celebrity crew, so vanilla nudists might seem tame to them. It might also depend on what countries the two lines recruit their crews from. Carnival might recruit more heavily from a country where nudity isn't quite as taboo. In 2016 the Connie had a different captain who might have been more upfront with the crew before BN started boarding. Maybe some of the crew were the same and weren't as shocked the second time.
How true. The captain this year was quite a character. Might have had something to do with it being his last last cruise on that ship. Agree that Carnival is more a party ship for younger cruisers while Celebrity caters to an older clientele I was really surprised to see Celebrity as the host line for 2015 and 2016. That just didn't fit their image. Looking forward to 2018 and seriously considering booking 2017 as well. Not getting any younger and there aren't that many warm weather places to go to in February.
We're hoping the '17 and '18 cruises are nakeder than this year's cruise was. Other than being sick four days the undress code was our greatest disappointment. We're all for the "nude unless weather conditions dictate otherwise" rule and were amazed that so many people were dressed so much of the time. Being our first nude cruise it was not at all what we expected.
