How far is far enough?
Return to DiscussionsI have always wondered how far other boaters get from the dock/ land
before they feel comfortable getting comfortable. Especially here in
the PNW we are often not far from land and/or other boats. I would like
to hear other peoples ideas of how far from dock, land, other boats you
are before you either disrobe, or cover up as appoaching.
I know for myself it seems to be about 300 yards.
TIA for all responses
Charlie
Once you are more than three miles offshore, state laws no longer apply. Its federal jurisdiction in coastal waters from 3 to 12 miles out and no laws prohibiting nudity. Beyond 12 miles is international waters and again no laws prohibiting nudity.
I guess it just depends on how daring you want to be. I have stayed nude for example on islands by the river and as boaters passed by sometimes from 30 yards away I would just position my legs in such a way that I am not blatantly exposing myself. I usually always just get a friendly wave and an envious smile. But if I am walking around nude I usually make sure they are a couple hundred yards away, unless they make a beeline to me for a better view, then sometimes they get a show. :-)
