How far is far enough?
Return to DiscussionsI have always wondered how far other boaters get from the dock/ land
before they feel comfortable getting comfortable. Especially here in
the PNW we are often not far from land and/or other boats. I would like
to hear other peoples ideas of how far from dock, land, other boats you
are before you either disrobe, or cover up as appoaching.
I know for myself it seems to be about 300 yards.
TIA for all responses
Charlie
My boat has a fairly deep cockpit, so I generally lose the shorts after a couple hundred yards. Two summers ago I was surprised by a boat in the Apostle Islands that came up behind us rather quickly and I did not see until they passed us, they may have gotten a glimpse of the side of my thigh and hip. I did grab my towel but it was too late. They never acknowledged anything.
I don't own a boat but have friends who do.Anyone ever have a opportunity to launch your boat nude?
I've been told that in Missouri you can be nude on your boat as long as it's not tied to shore -- can't launch the boat nude, but as soon as you're floating free in the water, you can drop trou.
Can't swim nude from the shore, but can jump nude into the water from your boat.
No specific idea on the distance and, having left my spectacles behind when heading out, no specific idea on how well I can be seen in my kayak! Once seated, the critical areas are out of sight to all but adjacent souls, but if I honour the lifejacket regulation in the beach, that is more obvious. My starting beach does not afford a chance to launch nude on most occasions, but the destination beach allows a walk leaving everything behind except my cap. My recent best was about 1 km from my craft. A couple of small powered boats came close while walking the other day, but presumably they were more interested in the fish than me. Hard to tell with certainty, though!
