changed history as faras that beach is concerned. As I read
it He made nudity an offence on a beach which has been clothes
optional for decades and in an example when the majority of other
beach-goers were naked too. I hope this does not spoil things more
widely for you Ausies. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Here in the UK the law tends to follow common practice, not
challenge it. Our Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)puts public
nudity as Disorderly Conduct - a minor offence for which the CPS
advises prosecution is not in the public interest. British Naturism
(BN)campaigns for the rights of nudists and has influential lawyers
on its side. It is a matter of degree - being naked in a town
centre would raise a prosecution but a beach or quiet countryside
is something else. And clothes optional beaches are seen as safety
valves where nudists can get naked lawfully. If this turned out to
be a landmark case our BN would certainly fight it. Tolerance of
nudity is even greater in mainland Europe.
That is so sad.
I have many great memories of days spent nude in the sun at Alexandria Bay. In fact, that gorgeous beach is one of my favorites in the world and the main reason for me visiting Queensland. I wonder if this will have any impact on tourism in the area. The local lodging and restaurants have lost my future business. Now I'll just spend more time down at Byron Bay.
Queensland could rival the coasts of France and Spain as a nudist destination if it wanted to.
Very sad....Seems it's a trend. New Orleans and Key West both used to have very liberal views on nudity. But here in New Orleans we have one nudist camp and one B & B left, 10-15 years ago we had over20 places to go. Key West has no non gay nudist/clothing optionalplaces to stay. Where they used to haveat least 5 several years ago. Not sure what's driving this trend. You would think with todays more liberal government things would be trending the other way. Maybe nudity doesn't fit into a political ideology. So sad for us nudist/naturalist...

From what I am told there are some very unfortunate aspects here.
Apparently the person charged had been acting lewdly which just adds fuel for the antinudist prudes to brand all naturists as undesirable
The timing could not have been worse.
Such behavior is not acceptable to naturists
There has been significant work undertaken in recent months building a parliamentary petition to designate the area as clothing optional. The State Premier (akin to State Governor in USA) has decided she is too busy to given any attention to the petition.
Prudes revel in the judgement
it will add fuel to the police charging males (seems they are unlikely to be charged)
In a country with extensive coastline such as Australia it is disgusting that a few hundred meters cannot be set aside for clothes free bathing
If the man was exhibiting lewd behavior, the other nudists should have immediately put a stop to it so that these types of situations do not happen. We will lose our rights to go nude at beaches if we do not squash this type of behavior.
I was playing Volleyball with the Black's Beach Bares one day when someone noticed a guy masturbating himself while watching the women playing with us. We immediately surrounded the ass hole and escorted him off the beach. Reporting him to a lifeguard would have created a situation like this, and being an ex-cop, it was hard for me to restrain myself, but it would have been a negative notch that the prudes could have used against us. That is why we self police ourselves.
If people want to masturbate or have sex in the outdoors, let them do it someplace where they can not be seen by others. An established nude recreation area is not that place.

They have a real tough job to do and people like you make it even tougher.Most often they are first on the scene of what we humans stupidly do and have to deal with it.So next time does some does damage to your person or property, please do not call the police to help you.BTW, my nephew is a police officer, and he is a pretty good kid, and a college graduate
I agree with Marty. Look, as long as there are humans involved, there will always be a few bad apples. But the vast majority of law enforcement officers (99+%) do what they do, because they are truly concerned with their community and keeping people safe. I will add that the majority of these "bad police" reports in the past few years are simply the media portraying the officers in a negative light, when they were in fact innocent and doing their jobs. The man in Ferguson was a scum bag who was a bully, attacked an innocent shop owner, and then attacked the cop. If a police officer is being beaten and believes that he may lose conscience and have his firearm taken and used against him, he has the right to use lethal force to defend himself. That is what happened, the evidence proved it, and the police officer was exonerated by a grand jury. Look at the evidence people, and stop being emotional, believing what the media says, and make a sound judgment AFTER all the evidence is in.
CherBear, I really respect you, but I know you are much more intelligent than the average person who believes everything that is said in the media. May I offer one suggestion? ANYONE who has any doubts about law enforcement should request to ride with an officer or deputy. Most departments have a ride-along program and will grant the request to a citizen without an arrest record. It is a real eye opener. Even if you hate cops, going on a ride-along allows you to "police" the police! I strongly suggest that every citizen, once in their lifetimes, to go on a ride-along and see what police actually have to go through on their daily shifts. It will open your eyes to reality. Ask any questions you want: all the cops I know are down to earth and will answer any questions you might have.
But if you are going to make an enemy of law enforcement, you damn well had better make friends with the criminals. Otherwise, who are you going to call when you need help?

There's no way they'd have a 'ride-along' programme in the UK. The police here and I suspect mots places can tend to be somewhat bigoted [I meanassume anyone different is up to no good, not racially or otherwise prejudice] but lets face it, they do come into regular contact with the less pleasant side of society so that's not really surprising.
Back to the original question - I think we do seem to be fighting a losing battle on our nude beaches but that's because they aren't being used as much and hardly at all by younger people [I'm speaking of UK beaches - not those in Europe]. Why is that do you think? I know we often don't have the best weather for sunbathing here but it's more than just that. Are people wary of relaxing naked cos its so easy for someone to take their photo & post it on social media?
