I've had a full beard for well over 40 years. Last winter I did shave my boddy. The bare skin was very sensative, sensual, noticing the lightest touch. But it was high maintenance. With the slightest stubble it turned to sandpaper. So I gave up and now I'm hairy all over. With age it does seam to be thining out, not only on top. It might all go one day.
Update, Jan 2012: Well it did all go. I shaved from the neck down.
Update March 2012: I'm still shaveing every morning from the neck down
