Why so few Black Female nudists?

Return to Discussions

I have noticed that there are not too many on here is it they are more private than the rest of us or is it really a lack of Black female nudists world wide? I find all women beautiful it is personality that makes a person beautiful. I don't see that many at beaches here in the states. I have not been to any of the nudist communities, resorts or camp grounds.

I have been a member of the Black Naturist Association (BNA) and it is largely black females, especially on the trips that they offer. It was through BNA that I was able to meet some local black females. But yes, they are very hard to find at public events.

I agree. I have met a few locals at the club and some I know that are home nudist. I think some just dont like being public about it and prefer to travel where they wont run into a work colleague.

RE:Why so few Black Female nudists?

We have close friends and a couple of family members who are Black. They know we are nudists. We've talked with them about it and they all seem quite conservative in their thoughts. We've been told that "why would I do that, I don't need a tan!" Being of Hispanic/Native American decent, I'm naturally dark skinned. I've even been asked by other nudists "why are you here. You don't need a tan!" Sometimes it escapes people what nudism/naturism is and why we do it.

For me, being Hispanic descent, as a culture, they are very conservative. The native American in me is where I most likely got by need and desire for being nude.

I was able to chime in because I'm friends with Mcdcvs.

As a man who has been Black all of my life (LOL), my opinion is that there are not many Black Female nudists because of their upbringing which has a little bit of racism mixed in with it. Right now, we are in a country where racism is rampant and usually aimed at people of color by White people. I'll be honest and say that it also goes the opposite direction, but is not as rampant and blatant. There are some things which occur in which I've been told were wrong and practiced by White people because their actions were sinful and as a result, they were going to hell. For example, in my upbringing over the years, I was led either intentionally or passively to believe that White people did some things which were wrong and they would have to give account to God for doing them because their actions were sinful and wrong. Some of the things were putting their loved ones into nursing homes, getting divorced, being nudists or showing too much skin, cursing and even not wearing their best clothes to church. Now I know these things may sound strange, but it is what it is. As a result, Black people, especially Black women, have a lot of background and underlining teachings to overcome in order for them to get to the point where they are comfortable being nude around others.

I'm not justifying them or trying to say that one belief is better than another, I'm just trying to explain things from my perspective. I may very well be as wrong as two left shoes, but this is my view point based on what I've experienced. We may all have common sense, but we don't always have common experiences.

I don't think you're wrong at all. This subject and topic could have its own thread/discussion but on a whole, it won't be civil. Therein lies the issue that is plaquing this country. Difference of opinion, respect and equality have gone out the door.

What's this got to do with the current topic? If blacks or dark color skinned people, such as I, visit a nudist club or resort, are we to expect different treatment than beyond the gates and in clothed society? I've visited these places with my wife and she was disgusted with the way people of color were treated and talked about by " nudists that are the friendliest and accepting people." That is and has always been BS.

This country has a long time to dig itself out of this hell hole we've created. One place it could start is within the nudist community but 1/2 this country has dug it's heels in the sand and refused to be civil, respectful and agree to equality. I know this too well but that's another story.

RE:Why so few Black Female nudists?

I was originally timid about visiting a nudist club as a black man but have been warmly accepted at each club I have visited. I dont know what may have been thought or said of me but I was able to be nude and no one clutched their proverbial pearls.

As mentioned before, some of the women I have talked to about the issue say that they believe that they will be objectified by the white male gaze. They have not separated sexuality from nudity or believe that men have. I applaud those women that have found their way to social nudity and have embraced its freedoms.

If many if not most white women dont consider nudist spaces safe why do we think black women with the additional layer of race would feel safe. I think part of the issue is many people cant imagine that black women are capable of creating their own spaces to express nudity outside the usual white dominated spaces. So we create all these weak negative victim blaming reasons. Religious, conservative, etc to distract from the reality. Its not safe. So they create their own safe spaces those of us who dont get invited to those places may feel left out learn to deal with it.

RE:Why so few Black Female nudists?

When my ex-wife stepped into the nudist world, she was aware that she might be one of a very few black women who "dared" to do so. That didn't make it any easier. She didn't fear racism as much as "standing out." I think many women - at least at first - want to blend in and be "low key." For my wife that was not an option. Everyone noticed her; as she was always the only black woman at the various venues we visited.

As mentioned before, some of the women I have talked to about the issue say that they believe that they will be objectified by the white male gaze.

I think we all know how over-sexualized "the culture" has made the black female backside. Songs have been written about it. Granted, not all black women are "endowed" in that area; but many are. It's genetics. So it's no surprise that black women might be squeamish about exposing that part of their body. It took quite a while for my ex to get comfortable with the idea of people being able to see her uncovered derriere.
And even then, there were certainly "looks" and even the occasional comment over the years. The comments were always positive; but my wife didn't always need to hear that her posterior was "appreciated."

So the issue for women is compounded. Fear of standing out from the crowd; not only being one or the only black woman, but also of having a physicality that "the culture" has sexualized to death. In my ex-wife's case, she chose to embrace her distinctiveness and be comfortable being a "naked black woman in a white environment." But that's not going to be easy for most black women.
