The what and where of tattoos
Return to DiscussionsA tattoo is for life. So each one is special. How did you chose what tattoo to have - it's design and position.
I did the design for my tattoos myself. I've always been fond of ducks. I put them on everything I owns and (as a trademark) on everything I made. So it was only a matter of time before I put one on myself. Back in the 1980's I was in a life drawing class. the model caused a spontaneous gasp from all the budding artists as he disrobed. In those days tattoos were uncommon and shaved pubic hair was unheard of. He had a big butterfly tattooed where his pubic hair would have been if he hadn't shaved it off. So that set the design and position of my first tattoo in 2013.
My second tattoo was just to make my left nipple different from the right one.
My first tattoo was in 2006. I had just come back from a surfing trip to Costa Rica. My wife and I had been contemplating getting one so we drove down to the Fountain of Youth tattoo parlor in St. Augustine. Saw a couple of different ones and put them together to form a scene. It is of a mound (island) with as palm tree with 3 coconuts and a dolphin jumping out of the water. The island and palm tree is my wife (the grounding force), the three coconuts are my kids and I'm the dolphin jumping.
