Return to DiscussionsMany have said that a true naturist is in his/her natural state - as created by nature without any adornment. But I would say that our choice of body adornment or art work shows our inner selves. Then we are more fully exposed and truly naked: body and personality. Tattoos and piercings in intimate places are only seen by loved ones and fellow nudists.
I am interested in why you both think body adornment is an expression of "inner self" in particular, and not just a fashion choice. Many people argue that choice of clothing also.rises to the level of expression of inner self and a lot of money gets spent because people buy into that.
The fact of decorating our bodies is extremely ancient. Can be a fun exploration for a modern person who doesn't have to adhere because of tribal identity or other social requirement. Maybe it is akin to a guy who just likes to wear power ties, vs one who has to because he has to fit into the executive suite culture.

A tattoo is for life! Even though they have become more popular almost nobody gets a tattoo without a lot of thought, both on the design and position of the tattoo. It is that depth of thought that reveals their personality. If you ask someone about their tattoo they will tell a story showing the significance of that particular tattoo. Piercings may be less permanent but they still show some commitment. Again, few people get a piercing without a lot of thought. And both tattoos and piercings involve quite a lot of pain.
Clothing can be put on, changed and (preferably) taken off. Choices in clothing are heavily influenced by the media and (in order to sell new clothes) the fashion industry. That may also apply to a necklace, bracelet, ring or other jewellery which a nudist might wear. Genital jewellery like a cock ring says something about the wearer as it is out of the ordinary. But none of these show a level of commitment required for piercings and, especially, tattoos.
As someone who has lots of tattoos...I appreciate the stories, serious or fun that go along with them. Some I just like the images, no depth in reason. I think they are fun and express that fun side I have. Trust me...it starts a lot of conversations at nudist events or areas.
Whether or not you agree with them is not my business. I like them. So I have them.
