Bromance SP
The relationship between two guys, heterosexual or a bit homo, it doesnt matter. It is a deep understanding of friendship for one another, that counts complicity and who has more affection, even if it manages jokes about being gay or not ... this is not the point. The most important thing is the support it offers to one another. Do you believe that? Did you have the chance to live like a...
Bromance, what is it in your opinion?
Return to DiscussionsAs someone who is in a bromance, I see it as a deep, purely platonic bond between men. I don't think sexual orientation is of any importance at all. There are hugs, we are not afraid of showing affection and although he is not a nudist we can be naked together. I have noticed that when I am talking about him and the bond we share, others get confused. They ask about us having sex. It would be really strange to do so.. I am very happy to see him, but I never feel any sexual attraction. When people talk about us having sex it feels like they are asking me if I have sex with my brother. It just doesn't feel right.
I must admit I was confused when we just met eachother.. it was like falling in love but without the sexual feelings or the butterflies of love. After only a few weeks he told me our friendship is for life. I completely agreed with him because it feels that way, but my head needed some time to process it still. It all happened really fast and wasn't a threat to my marriage at all.
I am a really lucky guy because it seems I have two soul mates. I am married to one and the other is my bromance buddy. Both these people add something to my life I would never have on my own or with just a good friend.
My husband and I have discussed this very issue many times. We have a deep love for each other which is like all marriage. Yet we have wonderful friends almost like bromances. Love cannot be confined or fenced in. Love grows. Bromances should never affect a marriage/partnership, if it does, then all parties need to address it before something goes badly wrong.
Bromance is a new word and I agree with the range of expressions here. "Brotherhood" and "romance" define a deep intensity and intimacy which I believe can be be emotional, physical and spiritual, and mean different things to different people. I think its definition depends more on the context of the relationship in their lives than any set of criteria. For example, one bromance may include casual sexual experimentation, whereas a gay married couple may have chosen a life-long committed relationship without any sex.
