Return to DiscussionsWe are in the same situation here in Texas. We had to trim all of our maters way back. Peppers lovin it though. We built the self watering containers mentioned on the upside tomatoes down thread. The tomatoes are struggling, but still alive, cooler nights have helped them recover though. the heat ravished our upside down tomatoes, and we transplanted them into the containers mentioned earlier. They are fighting and resprouting from the bottom of the stems. The Roma has been our heartiest one so far.

I'm about an hour east of you. I've been kind of looking for some tomato plants for a fall garden, but it'll be a pretty short season before it gets too cool to produce fruit, so really too late for growing them from seeds.

our upside down tomato plant is still struggling to survive but the rest of our tomato plants all in containers are producing tomatos and our one bell pepper plant is also producing a few peppers. it is still hot during the day so have to water, water and i still think its cheaper to just go buy them at the store over cost of the water but somedays when i'm watering and pick them off the vine hose the down and take a bite of a tomato off the vine it makes it well worth it. we are already planning fora better garden next year.
