Hammock anyone
Return to DiscussionsWell got imspired to boogie down to the river for the morning. Been needing to work out the suspension for my new tarp anyway. Hung and snoozed to the sounds of the river and breeze thru the trees,,, that is till the folks across the river started bushhoging! Reminded me I need to do the same instead of spending a lazy day :( Im going to try and post some pics from this morning, hope it works.
I love my ENNO hammock! Very comfy and fits nicely in my pack. Much lighter and less bulk than a tent and pad. Being a nudist and a hammock sleeper I can overnight out of a day pack.
Can the mosquitos bite through that ENO fabric? It's light and thin.
I might consider napping in a hammock, but sleeping in one would not be so comfortable for me and my wife at the same time. Even camping we sleep next to each other, often unzipping the sleeping bags if that's what we're using. A hammock for two is good for a snuggle, but I don't think it would be good for two sleeping the night.
No, would wind up as a pile of tangled arms and legs very shortly.
Strictly a solo sleeping arangement. It works for me because my
wife thinks camping is a hotel without a hot tub in the room :) We
too always sleep naked and close, but my camping excursions are
solo:(
Forgot to add, don' know about an eno, but they can get thru the bottom of a Hennessee. REI has some bug treatment that will keep them away, cant remember the name presently.
Last summer I had the opportunity to visit Turtle Lake in MI a few times. It's been crazy this summer and I haven't really gotten out at all. But when I was there I chose to camp in my ENO hammock system. First time was just one night and i got eaten alive, even with the bug net. The issue was the net was touching the hammock and the skeeters could feast on me right through the thin net and nylon. I took it home, did my research and treated the net with an insect repellent for equipment. My next trip was a long weekend and those little blood suckers were thwarted by my now treated bug net! My second trip also had a fair amount of rain, but the tarp did an excellent job of keeping things dry... that and being off the ground meant no puddles creeping in.
I love hammocking! I wish I had pictures but TLR is very strict about its photography policy. Not that I blame them.

Care to share your research? I have a cheap off brand hammock from Amazon that I find quite comfortable but I don't mind sleeping on my back. I've never even tried sleeping on my side. And the bug net works fine. But I've ended up with mosquito bites on my back when they bite right through the underside of the hammock. What kind of repellent do you use? Do you just spray it on the hammock once it's hung up? Is the active ingredient Deet? And how long does the repellant last between treatments?
Permethrin. , got it from REI, for equipment only. Spray on outside of hammock and let dry, it lasts thru several rains on a jacket. I put it on the hammock once a year. Just Google permethrin, a sawyer product I think, ,box is yellow. Not for skin contact!
I'm going to build a stand and tie my own rope hammock. I will post pix.
I'd like to see it. However I've always been able to find something to tie to even if there are no trees around. I've even hung between the roof racks of two vehicles. Or in the bed of a pickup, over the tailgate and out to a fence post. Whatever's available. Saw a Youtube video with a guy who hung a hammock inside his minivan by running a line (or maybe a nylon strap) out the front passenger window, across the top of the van, and back in through the left side of the back hatch. Then he hung the hammock cross ways in the van between the two ends and was able to close both the front window and the rear hatch. There's all sorts of ways to hang one
