Campers In The Nude
Anyone who goes camping in the nude. Be it a tent, trailer. or bus -- just like camping.
Walking naked around camp site June 1990
Return to DiscussionsWas up north in Canada , at a Provincial Park in Ontario , at a campground that had just opened for the summer , June of 1990 , a couple days before my girlfriend and I visited . In Lake Superior Provincial Park . Went there , set up camp with tent and Coleman gas stove . Quickly realized no one was coming , as this campground was at the end of a long gravel road , with only pit toilets . Got naked , and stayed naked for a long time , walking around and doing everything you would do at a campground , except that I was naked . Very fun and risqu . Miss that opportunity . Now over 25 years later , I still remember that , and love the memory .
I was able to do the same in September 2006, when I went to Killarney Provincial Park on the north end of Georgian Bay. Lots of hiking trails that I used nude and at that time there were mostly Scandinavian visitors and I found nude sunbathers on a few occasions.
Like you, fond memories
While not nearly so far north, I had a similar experience the
summer before last (2014).
My wife and I were camped in a Forrest Service campground on the
upper Williams Fork of the Colorado river, near Ute Pass. This is
normally a lightly used, textile campground that sometimes has a
campground Host. On this particular trip, we found ourselves alone
with no Host or other campers present. Our site was on the outside
loop and somewhat secluded from the main body of the campground so
once I discovered we were alone, I quickly shed my clothes to enjoy
some naked camp time.
The day was warm and clear so I took advantage of the good weather
to walk the dogs, fill up water jugs, gather firewood, and all the
other camp chores that I would normally have performed while
clothed. I was very relaxed as on this Tuesday, in the middle of
the summer - the last weekend's campers had departed and the next
weekend's group had yet to arrive. Because of the layout of the
camp, any stray approaching traffic could be heard long before it
could be seen thus minimizing my chances of offending any textile
campers or passerby's. The icing on the naked cake was that I was
able to use our camper's outside shower to rinse off in the
afternoon sunshine after a day of embracing nature, au
natural! It was a thoroughly enjoyable day free from the
constraints of the textile world.
Alas, the opportunity to enjoy this campground naked ended all to
soon as several groups of textile campers showed up after dark -
there goes the neighborhood... I did take solace in the fact that, even when textiles are present,
this area presents many opportunities for naked hiking just a short
walk from the campground, an
opportunity I fully exploited the next day!
Think Summer!
Some years back we were in south-west Australia and walking part of the Cape to Cape Walk Track from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin. Much of it is right on the coast, some of it on the beaches, its intended only for walkers, no horses or bikes, with access points along the way. We'd heard that it was possible to walk much of it nude outside of main holiday times, this proved to be the case. We knew where the access points were and normally you could get a view of parking areas as you approached, if there were no vehicles we stayed nude, if we saw any we had some minimal cover ups at hand. We mostly had reasonable sight ahead elsewhere along the route which made it easy to stay naked without risking upsetting textiles.
We stayed at two pay campsites and two very basic ones built for walkers. We were able to camp nude at the latter as there was no one else there on our arrival. It felt a bit risque as mentioned above while setting up camp and making our evening meal while nude, knowing others could turn up at any moment, but we knew we'd kick ourselves if we hadn't taken the opportunity to do this as nudists as much as possible. We'd camped in quite a lot of bush and coastal locations off of the beaten track on both this visit and previous ones to Australia. Its a big place, many people getting off of the main drag are very laid back, we'd camped nude before and met others who did so too. We'd also camped nude in Shannon National Park in the same area and walked naked along sections of the Bibbulman track. We encountered a few textiles while we were naked on these various trips but never had any problems, we'd been told a few times that nude seemed so sensible in that climate and that they'd wished they'd had the courage to do as we were, of course we couldn't resist encouraging them to do so, they didn't! Maybe we were lucky. but it felt good to be accepted as nudists and to share campfires, food and stories while peacefully co-existing, them clothed and us naturally naked.
I get why other stories recounted in this thread mean a lot to the authors, it does feel so right to grab any opportunity to be nude in nature.
Nik,
Thank you so much for sharing a detailed account of your nude adventures. I really love it when people take the time to give us the details of their trips and experiences. Hope others will follow your lead.

Back in the 1990s I and a friend of mine decided to do some
wilderness back pack camping. He had always wanted to explore a
virgin forest with old growth trees. So we went to The Bowl
Wilderness area in New Hampshire. We were not at a campground,
but I had hiked in the area (clothed) and knew there were well used camp
sites in the area. I am not sure they are still there, but they
were at the time. It is a far distance from much of anything but
the place we pitched our tent was right near a hiking trail along a small swift
river. We set up camp and decided to take our clothes off for the
time we were at camp. Nudity is illegal and we were worried about
being discovered, but we also liked the freedom and the challenge so we did it. We were both inexperienced with nudism or naturism but we're very excited to try.
We had dinner, hung out by a fire and spent the night together in
the tent. In the morning he was getting breakfast, still nude and I
was washing at the river's edge when four hikers showed up. I could see from the riverbank that Jon
grabbed a towel and held it around his waist. I just waved from the
stream. The hikers were cool about the nudity and as soon as they left
Jon dropped the towel and we ate breakfast. We were then breaking
down camp when more hikers showed up. They clearly found us both
naked but for them we both grabbed shorts and they watched as we
pulled them on. That's pretty much the end of the story but it was
a good time with no repercussions.

Your welcome David, I appreciated both yours and others' stories about where you'd enjoyed camping naturally naked. To me a major reason to be on TN is for those of us who like life to be spent nude to learn from each other where we can do this.
A friend of mine is a retired Forest Ranger. He knows of my nudist lifestyle and has told us of many times he has come across people, many who were trying nudism for the first time; in the "wild"; nude. He has never busted anyone for this minor infraction. Why ? Because there is a ton of paper work to follow on his part. A headache, something he rather avoid doing. As long as no one less complains and the "campers" are not to anything else illegal, ( drunk, drugs or having sex out in the open, est.) If everyone is mindful and respectful; we can all get along fine. Another thing he doesn't want are for these little "hide ways" to become public knowledge. Look at all the restrictions now in place at Mazo Beach, in Wisconsin. Soon this place maybe gone completely. So everyone have a happy and safe new Nude year.
In Florida, simple nudity is not illegal except in a few counties and cities. I have had rangers stop by my campsites for various reasons (asking about permits, if I had seen missing boaters, etc). Never have any of them told me to get dressed, or even mentioned my nudity at all. I have always been careful to avoid peak times and stayed off the beaten paths. Florida has a "catch all" disorderly conduct law, so if I was naked on a holiday weekend at a crowded campsite, someone could complain that my nudity was offensive. Even then, when an officer responds to one of these complaints, the naked person is usually merely told to dress rather than getting arrested or fined.
The simplest thing in my mind is to avoid kicking the hornets nest by avoiding the crowds in the first place.
The only place I've camped in the nude was at Cypress Cove where everyone is nude. The minute I got there I undressed before setting up camp and stayed that way the whole time I was there. Can't wait to do it again. As far as hiking naked I have done it a couple of times in N.C. near our cabin. Plant to do more of that this summer when we go up there.

I've also spent a lot of time naked in Killarney - not hiking, but canoeing in. I found if you get a site deep enough in the park you'll never see anyone, especially if you're not there on a long weekend. I've gone ages without seeing a soul (which is nice, but also a good reminder that backcountry camping there is for people who take it seriously). And it's just a ludicrously beautiful place.
