Return to DiscussionsDo you have a small travel trailer? I want one. Did you get yours new or used, and what do you pull it with? As far as brands are concerned, who do you think makes the best ones?
Are there still pop up tent trailers? I would kinda' like the openness of one of those.I'll be pulling mine with a 2014 Grand Caravan.
It occurred to me that I could really camp in the back of that van. I'm going to measure it, and see how wide the inside is compared to an twin size, air up mattress. All of the seats disappear, fold into the floor.
I've been considering a teardrop camper lately. They're not for

camping but I also like sleeping in air conditioned comfort and
locking myself into something solid when camping in bear country.
As an alternative, I'd like an extremely small RV. About the
size of a standard 1/2 ton cargo van. Anyhow, I'm still mullin' it over.

Yeah, me too. I saw one tear drop one on TV last night that actually had an outdoor kitchen built into the hull, if you will, where one could sit outside behind the camper and watch TV, cook, etc. It seemed to be pretty much a one person deal, although there was room for two to sleep inside, because the outdoor kitchen only had two burners. Although, there's campsite grills at a lot of places, too. I think I would have a really hard time tent camping, because I am disabled. The set up, tear down and comfort while sleeping might be an issue.
There are several companies that manufacture Teardrops and lots of
individuals that build them one at a time to sell. And a huge
group online that mostly build their own. Here, check this out on
Youtube. These are mostly homebuilts.

23ft closed) which they dont make anymore... but they
have others .... bigger and smaller. These trailers
fold down in length and height..... They are hard sided... so u can use them in bear country.

My wife loves the look of those and wants one and she doesn't even camp. Told her if we got one we would have to go to the nudist resort. May be a way to get her started into nudism.
Just my humble opinion, but I believe you will fall in love with camping all over again with a travel trailer. You can find some good bargains on Craigslist for older Dutchmen and Scamp trailers and even pop ups. Just be vigilant when buying a used camper. ANY sign of water damage is a definite deal breaker unless you enjoy tearing out the old paneling and 2X2 stud work and replacing it. Also pay close attention to under the kitchen sink and around the bath. Lots of people don't know you are supposed to open the roof vent when you shower and all that moisture has to go somewhere, usually into the stud work or roof supports. The Hi-Lows are very nice too, but the same rules apply about water. Check all cabinets both high and low and don't let the seller talk you into buying one with damage. I have had a LOT of campers and now have 3 trailers and 1 motor home. Nude camping is the BEST!!

............I found a 1985 29 ft Coachman at Avalon for $ 1000.00 which everything in it works, is solid inside and out and now is my home most of the year at Avalon.........Ruhl
I decided that my body is too 'experienced to sleep on the ground any more, so I'm looking, underlined looking in that direction too.
Seriously though, I think that putting my energy into a NW Florida non-landed club would be more appropriate. There's no place to chill during the cooler weather around here besides the Riviera.... And the holidays are are on the nigh.

Congratulations! After doing the tent thing for too long and realizing we are getting too old for that, we recently bought a pop up camper. We have used it once so far at a textile campground, but are looking forward to exploring many clothing optional campgrounds next summer.
