Getting ready for the season
Return to Discussionshaven't been out yet :( but have been working the past week setting up my canoe mainly for fishing, added some pontoons for stability and hopefully standing, trolling motor, and some eye bolts for anchor line - fish stringer. haven done anything to kayak as it's pretty well set up i guess. hopefully will get out during midweek when everyone at work maybe get some nude time in on the water.
Our weather this year never did get too cold to go. Maybe too cold to capsize but air temps haven't been the problem. It's just a matter of finding the time to go. I'm hoping to spend next weekend at a resort so it won't be next weekend. But it won't be long afterwards.
I found that the seat back I had was too tall. I changed to a back band.
That's been on my things to do list ever since I bought my boat last summer. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. What kind of boat do you have and which back band did you get? I have a Perception Expression 15 with the standard Zone DLX seat. It's as comfortable as a living room recliner but, even at the lowest setting, the back is just too high for for an uncomplicated self rescue.
Oh Boy! Oh Boy! I am looking forward to this summer. I broke my leg last summer which curtailed my kayaking. I was about to retire. So I did so a little early. This year I'm ready. No stress, no schedule. Farm work at the Stable flexible. This year nude kayaking all season.
Hoping to get my 1st trip of the year in this week-end but because of water temps I'll probably be wearing a wet suit. Figure I have at least 2-3 weeks before nude kayaking is an option. Still it feels good checking my gear and yaks in preparation for another paddling season.
I have a Necky Manitou 14. I got the small Necky back band. Easy to install . I was out for a couple of hours this week, The band gives good lower back support and is much easer to enter the boat
I like your Necky and like its back band as well. The perception band is higher in the middle and I'm not sure what purpose that serves. In fact the extra height is the very reason I want to replace the DLX seat back. So I'm still pondering the possibility of using some other brand of back band, possibly Necky, on my boat.
Made it out last Wednesday. The weather was perfect! Paddled with
some friends, watched some mother porpoise and their calves feeding
on mullet. Didn't have a chance to get rid of the shorts, but it
was a great day for paddling with friends.
