RE:Christianity and nudism

I grew up being told that being naked was sinful, and I believed it all my life until I discovered naturism in 2017. Being the kind of person that doesnt participate in things I dont believe in, I really studied the scriptures to see if there was anything God has said about nudity being a bad thing. All I could find was the following:

1. God made Adam and Eve naked and unashamed

2. Men and woman are made in Gods image, and they were called very good at the Creation

3. Since God is the literal embodiment of all good, virtuous, and holy attributes - worthy of all glory and praise and admiration - the image bearers of God couldnt possibly be an unholy and mortally impure sight.

4. Old Testament prophets regularly were found naked while preaching (Isaiah 20 is one example where God commanded nakedness)

5. Jesus taught his disciples to clothe the naked, not because it was a bad thing, but because poverty usually resulted in not being able to afford clothing. In that day and place, poverty was seen as a sign of Gods disfavor and condemnation - so when Jesus was teaching to clothe the naked, it was to show that they werent cursed by God. Of course, there are other obvious reasons to give a destitute person your clothing (warmth, comfort, status, etc)

6. Mary didnt recognize the resurrected Jesus at the empty tomb after the resurrection despite being with him for several years. Through her tear-soaked eyes, it could be difficult to make out someones face clearly, but to believe he was a completely different person is another. She thought he was the gardener, a profession marked by nudity (too poor for many clothes, so they were removed for dirty work to keep them from being soiled and worn out). Jesus was most likely naked when he appeared to her - a possible symbol of purity and victory over death.

These are just a few things Ive learned since diving into Gods word about the topic, but even these alone showed me just how wrong I was to equate the body with lust and shame.

RE:Christianity and nudism

Austins response is great! I really dont have much to add here except to share some of the few times I have been nude around Christian friends. (And it would be strictly male friends) I had a good friend that was also a Christian that would hang out nude with me in the pool, watching tv, etc. But he passed away a couple years ago. I have another Christian friend who has told me hes a nudist at home but he doesnt get naked here when he visits. Weird! I have another Christian friend who knows I am a nudist and hes ok with me being nude when he visits, but he never gets naked and he doesnt even get nude in his own pool at home. To me its odd when guys who have been friends for decades have never seen each other naked. I didnt go away to college, I was in the military. And in the barracks its not at all unusual to see your friends naked from time to time. I guess thats part of the reason that for me its a part of being human and having friends. Friends of the same sex should feel free to be naked around one another. But I generally dont advertise to my friends that Im a nudist. Thats the sort of thing people would love to gossip about, whether theyre Christian or not.

Good answer, I think exactly the same, nudism and Christianism has always been together one way or another, is important for us to embrace it. God is great.
