Ironmonger Row Baths London
Return to DiscussionsIronmonger Row Baths at 1 Norman Street EC1V 3AA is pretty hot. They have communal showers in the mens changing rooms at the swimming pool which is always quite busy and most guys shower naked.
They also have a Turkish Bath, although I haven't been here for some time, it certainly used to be a great place to be naked with like-minded guys.
I used to pop into IMR when I was working in London. There was a lad I knew went there and was hoping to catch up with him. Did love the showers and changing. Was also one of the first times I was aware of being cruised - there was a guy waiting for me outside after - I was a scared newbie then and already late home to the wife & kids so ran - SORRY if you're on here !
I was a regular at the local pool in North West England in the late 80s/early 90s that had a large Victorian spa attached. It was known as the Turkish Baths and had different hot rooms, a wooden sauna and the original beautifully tiled plunge pool. A steam room was installed later.
Separate days for men and women. You were given a small cotton sheet to wrap around if you wanted it but otherwise almost entirely nude except for a few younger guys or newbies that wore swimming shorts. They usually got rid of these sooner or later. When I first went even the attendant would strip and clean the place naked. He also did a proper (non-sexual) massage. He retired and the new attendant tended to stay in his booth.
There was a very relaxed attitude to the nudity with lots of different ages, shapes, sizes etc. It certainly helped me with body confidence and not to be embarrassed by anything that isnt perfect in mine or others bodies. There was always a conversation to join about every subject imaginable. Men from different backgrounds with very different jobs and lifestyles, but the place had a real levelling effect.
I moved away mid 90s and returned a couple of times. Swimming costumes and covering up had become much more common, the conversation more sparse and tended towards the laddish as the clientele became younger.
Its a long time since I was last there but great memories.
Good memories of swimming at this pool, and of the showers, from the mid-80s when I was working during Winter in London, and living in a hostel where the hot water would run out if you didnt get a shower early. Always hot water,, and guys who werent afraid to show or look.
