Need advice on whats acceptable
Return to DiscussionsHello I am currently in a studio apartment in a high rise. I like to be nude. However I am concerned that folks in other building whose windows face mine can see me and possibly complain. I keep curtains half closed. Any advice from folks in similar situation how we can be respectful to others but still enjoy our freedoms? Thanks!
I'm probably not the right guy to give you such advice. However, my personal view is that when I'm in my home I'm naked. I just live my normal life and if someone can see me in my private home I'm ok with that. If it bothers them than they don't have to look intentionally through my window. If they like what they see that is ok with me as well. The human body is natural and not something to hide or be ashamed of. I purchased 11 acres of property in the forest just so I can have my privacy. My wife and I used to be outside on our property totally nude. Then one day we went to our neighbors property on the hill and across the road from us. The neighbor made it clear to us that he could see our property very well from his back yard. My wife quit walking around nude. I started to cautiously walk around nude. Finally I decided that it should not be my problem. I now freely walk around my property nude. He and his wife don't have to look at my property. Years have gone by and they haven't said anything to me about it. If they do I will explain to them that I'm a nudist and that I bought my property with the intent to be nude on my property.
I feel the same way. If I am in my home that I pay for then I will live however I please. We dont need to abide and consent to how others live when we are the ones who are trying to live naturally as possible. When I lay out in my backyard my partner gets upset when Im there, but then I realize it is my yard and I will be however I want no matter the circumstances. A penis and a penis and a naked body is nothing to be ashamed of. We are all natural and respect each other and should continue to be naked, liberated, and happy.
I live in a situation where I live with my partner and a roommate. Im able to be naked with my partner but with my roommate Im not able to live as liberally as Id like. So, I am living with clothes on while they are here and once they are gone I am 100% naked. Its definitely a struggle but its something to live with until Im able to figure it out
I live on the top floor, of a 4 storey apartment block and overlook, the houses across the street, below me. I'm naked 24/7 at home and I'm sure, some of my neighbours across the street, know that I'm fully naked, when they see me at the window. I get a smirk off some of them lol. The only people that could see in, are the people in a high rise block, about 200 yards away. If they want to get binoculars to see in, then let them. It's my flat, my body and I don't care lol

This gets down to "expectation of privacy". In your front yard, you have no expectation of privacy. Your back yard has a higher expectation of privacy but still not entirely private. If you keep your curtains open, your expectation of privacy is higher than your yard but still not great.
But you are still in your own home. At that point, the problem is on the viewer, not the nudist. Go naked, be happy.

We have has this discussion with my nudist friend and his wife. Our county has a strangle law just enacted in 2013. My friend I have both read the law, it is not clear. To be safe my friend will not go nude in his house with the curtains open. My wife and I on the other hand have a slightly different thought. There is also a peeping Tom law where I live. If they look in they are in violation. If I go to the window and press up against the glass and dance I am in violation. We use a blue sheer fabric inside curtain that is almost invisible to us from the inside but is difficult to see through from the outside. The sheer fabric acts like a one way mirror. We close our curtains each night when the light from inside is stronger than the light outside. Since we are nudist we also made one of our windows wide but not tall. We see out and they only sees our shoulders and above.
When outside we have a deck that two neighbors can peer into. We have a wind and vision block pattern for fence boards. So neither neighbor can see below the waist.
My advice is search your local laws and read them for yourself. You might even email a local district attorney with clarification questions, but I would use a temp email and a city park as house address if requested. Cheers
