Ten feet away with the string trimmer!I don't recommend strimming naked. I ended up with thorns etc embedded in my ankles. Now I always wear (only) wellies

I have trimmed inside my pool enclosure wearing only shoes and socks. Also have cut the small patch of grass inside the fence "dressed" that way.
I'll run a strimmer wearing just shoes and socks and a hat. I can feel the bits and pieces of grass and (probably) chips of the plastic string hitting my lower leg, but they don't hit hard enough to break the skin. I'll also mow the back yard (inside the privacy fence) in the same costume. It's much more comfortable than dealing with damp, sweaty clothing getting caught up on my body.
