An hour and a half, daily
Return to DiscussionsMy shortest commute to work was 45 minutes and the longest was an hour and a half going and 2 hours coming home. I worked 24 hr shifts so I'd drive to work one day and come home the next. I drove naked to and from work always for 32 years.
Only once, that I know of, was I seen ... after I got to work. At this particular fire house, I parked under a carport. I'd come in quite a bit early this shift to relieve my opposite so he could leave on his vacation. I decided to drive into the back of the fire house and get out of my truck naked and walk upstairs to the locker room and put on my uniform.
The drive to work was uneventful. I got to work, drove into the back of the station, exited the truck and began unloading my things to carry upstairs. No one up yet and the guy I was relieving was in the shower. I put on a uniform and headed downstairs to start the day. After he briefed me on the previous day, we switched parking places. As I exited the truck, this time in uniform, two female police dispatchers from the police department on the same property, smiled and waved and then kinda giggled.
I didn't think much of it, I wave back and went back into the fire station. Later that morning I needed to see a particular officer to ask him some questions and I was told he was in dispatch. I found him there and after a couple of minutes conversation, he said he had to go get some paperwork and photocopy it for me. This left me alone in dispatch with the two female dispatchers that I'd seen earlier that smiled, waved and giggled.
As the officer left the room, one of the young ladies said ... "morning Cap." I replied and then she says ... "do you remember that soon after 9-11 they city installed security cameras on the property for PD and FD?" I replied, "yeah, I remember." She then said ... "well ... one of those cameras in pointed right at the back apparatus doors of the fire station." I still wasn't getting it and then ... the light went on. They both smiled and said ... "you sure made our shift worth while! Best thing that's happened to us in a long, long time!" :D
Apparently ... they'd seen me pull up, get out and unload my truck and watched me til I went out of sight. I smiled and said ... "I'm glad I could make your shift a bit more interesting." One of them said ... " we enjoyed it very much. When can we expect another show!?" :D ... We laughed and joked a bit and then the officer returned with the paperwork I needed. I said to the young ladies ... "see you later." They replied ... "we'll be watching! hehehe"
I pulled into the back of the station numerous times after that but always pulled in further so I was out of sight of the camera. I did see these two female dispatchers several times after that and they asked why I pulled in so far and I stated that I never know when they are working and may not have someone in dispatch, watching those security monitors that were as accepting as they were. They agreed. I miss driving those long commutes to work ... sometimes. ;-)
I travel most days for work and my commute takes me all over Texas. I travel most days naked and its absolutely wonderful. Its a great way to relax. Driving 2 hrs or more a day naked it also keeps you aware of your speed and traffic around you. I always keep a pair of shorts handy in the seat next to me in case i need to make a stop for something.
