Return to DiscussionsCold mornings for us Southern Californians ... 36 this morning! We start out in robes but now that the real Christmas tree was been removed from inside the house, my wife ... who never turns on the central heating, has turned on the heater and after it's cycled through twice, the robes are untied and unzipped. A couple more cycles and the robes will be off! :DDD
I have to admit, as we continue to age, our intolerance for the cold increases! We're in robes and slippers as the current outside morning temps hover in the mid 30's to very low 40's. Our valley warms up nice and usually quite quickly but those first morning hours from 5-8 am are chilly and I have my medium weight robe on and some slippers! My wife hates the heater being on. It dries out the air and gives her a headache so I suffer through the early morning hours with a robe on! ;D
We sleep naked all year round, but thus time of year we are more often dressed then not during the day.
Kind of the same here. Absolutely love sleeping in flannel sheets but we don't turn the temp up so I can be naked. If it's warm enough I will be or maybe Donald ducking it. When it's sunny outside a lot of the times I can find a nook or cranny that doesn't have any wind and then I can handle it. Otherwise its textile time unfortunately. There is always the hot tub!
I'm hypersensitive to the cold, wish I could handle it better like some of you. Anything below 60 is bone chilling unless there's no wind and the sun is out, otherwise I need to cover my core. When we lived in Reno, our apartment had a hot tub that was open 365. In the winter the snow was piled everywhere with a great view of the Sierras. When the sun was out, I was comfortable laying out on the warm cement around the edge and was comfortable.Few others used the hot tub in the winter so I could usually slip off my suit while in the tub, just had to keep an eye on the gate. (Guess I was a blooming nudist back then!)I suppose it's the difference between the west coast and the east coast humidity.
And there is a big difference to the humidity in North Florida and South Western North Carolina. When it's cold and wet here in the winter that humidity will bite right through you. Summer time it's a steam bath here. I used to be really sensitive to the cold but when I gained a little weight not so much.
Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of body fat! ;-)
Lucky you. It's a luxury I would give up if it were so easy. When I met my wife at age 31 I weighed 138 pounds and at 5'11" I was pretty skinny. Now at 61 I'm still 5'11" but 188 at the moment. 50 pounds keeps you nice and cozy it seems. Went form a carpenter out on the job swinging a hammer to sitting behind a computer. Planning to get back on the work out train after the holidays. Not just for the weight but for the health. Been threatening to do it for months. Still pretty active but if I could lose 10 I'd be happy. I was there in the summer. Maybe it's just my winter fat! Haha!
Living in south Louisiana the winters don't get very cold snow is a rare site maybe 1-2 times every ten years or so. It is considered cold when the temperature dips below 40 so its not much of a change for me just use a blanket at night.
