Caladesi & Honeymoon Islands?
Return to DiscussionsHello there and greetings from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
I remember I went to Caladesi Island some few years back, but we had to kayak to the island (or take a ferry). I don't think it is possible to walk to Caladesi Island.
Are you confusing it with the northern end island from Fort De Soto Park, in Clearwater, Florida? That island, at the northern end of Fort De Soto State Park, you can walk to and then you'll find plenty of nudist sunbathing.

I absolutely know you can walk from Clearwater Beach up to Caladesi Island. I did it. I read the signs. It is about a two mile walk from the northern most parking in Clearwater to Caladesi, then another two miles up to the end of the island.
I hiked to the end of the island, did a bit of skinny dipping, and sat on one of the wooden benches nude. This was on a week night after 6pm. I saw only a handful of other people for over two miles and you can see anyone coming from a long ways away.
Honeymoon Island is directly north of Caladesi, and you can't walk there from the south. Many maps show Caladesi not connected to Clearwater, but if you look on satellite images you'll see it is clearly connected.
Clearwater Beach and Caladesi got connected some years back when we had a tropical storm come thru. There use to be nudity on the north end of Honeymoon in the 70's that was overlooked by the park employees, however the City of Dunedin police would go out and arrest people for being nude, it kinda died off after the 80's. Three Rooker island north of Honeymoon is usually nude most days but you can only get there by boat.
While North Honeymoon Island is not legally nude, you can easily be nude there with discretion. You can travel there by boat or walk the 2.5 miles up to the North from the main beach. Week days are the best and will allow you the most exposure.
