Like most things, it's an issue exactly as we define it. As a life model, it seems to be an issue of pride for you and I commend that. We all have something to be self-conscious about that falls within the range of standard deviation. To build our confidence, the best attitude seems to be: if you have something to hide, paint it red!

I think that in venues like nude beaches, you'd get stares whatever your size. Don't take it personally.

In venues like resorts, where the people you meet are used to seeing and being seen, it isn't an issue at all. They've seen the whole range of variation, and they don't care about it. Same with women and breast size.
