Paul Gilbert just thought they looked cool so he did it on one of his first guitars when he was in Racer X, and it became his thing. Now most of his guitars except his Fireman series have them. The guitar he gave me was one of his Super Strat models, so it has them. It hides the volume knob pretty well (his older guitar models dont have tone knobs).
Whats on your pedal board?
My board starts with a Bad Horsie 2 wah pedal, then a PolyTune mini tuner, a Keeley Compressor Plus, a Wampler Hot Wired overdrive/distortion, up to the top row with a cheap Donner noise gate, an EHX Pitch Fork pitch shifter, an MXR Micro Flanger, an MXR Phase 95 phaser, a Flashback II delay, and back down to the bottom row with a clone of the Ditto looper.
