Hotel prices around there, ridiculous
Return to DiscussionsI was just looking (for the first time in several years) at hotel prices around Sea Bright and Highlands, and nearby. They've gotten outrageous.
I started going to Gunnison in 1994. In those days, I used to take Greyhound to NYC overnight (I didn't get a drivers license until I was 59), then take Academy Bus to Sea Bright, and walk the 4 1/2 miles to Gunny; in the evening, I'd reverse that. More recently, I've driven up and back in day trips.
But then, I spend 8 to 10 hours driving for 3 or 4 hours at the beach, and wind up mostly napping on the beach. I've gone less and less over the years; now, at 70, it just seems not worth the effort. So I looked into hotels, and came back shellshocked. I used to stay at the Fairbanks in Sea Bright. But it's changed ownership (and changed its name) and been converted up a few stars, so no more.
But even this one dive motel on SR36 (I won't name it) has raised prices through the roof. And it gets VERY spotty reviews on basic things like cleanliness.

You might find more reasonable prices in Eatontown or Tinton Falls, about a half hour from Gunnison.
