We are planning a trip to San Antonio this month and will be staying at Riverside Ranch. We are thinking about taking a trip up to HH and wondered what we should know. It looks like there is NO beach...is that right? Is it much of a hike to get to where you can relax? any advice? Kim and Nick

RE: New to HH

We live 15 minutes from HH and go there quite often. Actually, there is a lot of beach, but it is rock, not sand. The lake is 2/3s low from being full. Typically, you see no islands, but now you see a lot of islands. Also, HH is owned by the Lower Colorado River Authority, and they don't allow anyone under 18, nor any commercial establishments. You will need to take your ice chests for drinks and food. As you enter HH, after you have parked, you will find the first public restroom. If you turn left, and walk about a quarter of a mile, you will find the second restroom. Swingers typically are by it and gays are usually just beyond.
We hope you enjoy HH. It is truely unique and a wonderful place to visit.

So it's about a 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot? Is it best to bring a beach chair? Can you swim? Should we bring water shoes? Thanks so much.... Kim and Nick

Water Shoes...definitely. I thought about bringing a beach chair, but unless you're going to the beach below 1 or want to find a place in the shade near the walkway, high above the lake... Well, I just brought a towel and found a smooth large rock. Some people brought large umbrellas, which would double as a walking stick for walking downward. Others I saw actually had tents (like you would use for camping). Also depends on how long you want to stay. All day... yeah, I would bring everything you would need to be comfortable, chairs, ice chest, plenty of water and sunscreen, umbrella (like those on top of tables), whatever you want, but you'll have to go back and forth depending on how many people you have in the party. Enjoy yourselves!! It's an amazing experience, and I hope I can go back sometime soon.

Oh, swimming... definitely... I wore my shoes into the lake, which made swimming a little harder, but there's plenty of water for swimming. Some people say they get nibbled on by fish, but I never felt anything.
