What is your favorite way to kayak fish?
Return to DiscussionsWhen I first got a kayak I had dreams of big water and big fish. While I still have those dreams I find that most of the time I succumb to the simple pleasure of use my kayak to chase pan fish with my fly rod.

I had the same dreams you did. In practice it turned out quite differently.
I enjoy paddling out in my sit-in OldTown Vapor and jigging for panfish (think Crappie) as well as using small top waters for sunfish and bluegill.
A more serious type fishing is using a sit-on kayak simply to get to where you are going to fish either on the flats in the Gulf of Mexico or on sand/gravel bars in rivers. Once there I get off the kayak and stand to cast which gives me a little higher vantage point. This technique is great for white bass during the spring run as well as redfish in the gulf most times of the year.
