Recommend poses? Help!!!

Return to Discussions

I am a newbie to posing for art. However, I have been asked to pose single person nude for a group of artists that will be painting and sketching for a class. The instructor said whatever pose I am comfortable with. He said four one-hour sessions with 5-10 min breaks every hour.

So what pose do you recommend? I REALLY need your experience here!!!

Assuming it's you alone, anything sitting is easier in my opinion

I looked at a few of those poses. There's no way I could hold very many of those for more that a few minutes.

It gets easier after practicing and actually posing like. Ive done it for almost 3 yrs now. Up to 30 minutes on some of them. Gotta select the best one based on pose time. Obviously you wouldnt do one with your arms over your head for 30 minutes. Even if you did, a good artist would allow you to take short breaks to get the blood back in those arms.

Good to know! So a standing pose needs more breaks than a seated or laying pose - that makes sense.

Yes, if the instructor/supervisor of the session is any good, they will allow you to drop your arms, if you are standing, and get the blood back in them. Then you can put them back in the position you started. The instructor at the university I pose is great and allows it.
