Although some couples at the resort are not social at all, hanging around the pool or hot-tub will usually lend itself to socializing with other people.

Couples tend to favor socializing with other couples because of the commonality. There's also a balance and sense of equality; the "husband who can see my wife naked" has a wife who can also be seen naked, and vice-versa. So there's an element of trust and respect; which is not as easily attained with single people (unfortunately).
Wives also often find it easier to connect with other wives.

It is also not uncommon for couples to also hang out outside of the nudist environment. The fact that they've all seen each other nude can strengthen the relationship; even if that connection is "surface." That's why they may seem "closer" than other with "textile" friends; as they are at a different level of "intimacy."
