Sunnyside erosion :-(
Return to DiscussionsFirst time back at Sunnyside for sometime, looking WAY rockier than usual, where did all the sand go?? Has anyone else noticed or just me? Is there anything that can be done?

It's all down to the weather. Early last summer, the was almost no sand at the northern end, yet it came back as the season progressed. At the moment there's even less. It may take another storm to put some back.

The sand movements at Sunnyside North definitely change accessibility to the beach itself. The northern access changes from a little challenging to a real rock scramble, while the southern end can be sandy or just rocky. I like to visit barefoot but the entrance trail can be a challenge!

I used to go to Sunnyside from the mid 1980's to around 2000, missed a few years. But it has always been rocky at the north end. Some years were worse that others, and yes storms did make a difference. I had friends who had a bathing box on the Mt Eliza beach (Moondah?) and I used to walk from there sometimes, was a hassle at times around that north point of Sunnyside.

Sunnyside is what it is. Better than Portsea where the channel dredging within Port Phillip has resulted in a beach that's permanently less substantial.
