A better question would be  Why are people so afraid to admit that they are nudists?

everyone at work knows I am a nudist, I have no secrets or quams about it. I was reared to be open and honest so I am always.

I believe that it is the way society has everyone brainwashed  that nudity is a bad thing.  Some areas are so closed minded about the subject that it is better to keep it to yourself.  Its unfortunate that we still live in a world that thinks nudity is sexual.

I don't advertise it but if it comes up I will tell it like it is.

I'm a college instructor, I need to be careful about who knows (or at least who can see).  There is a chance I could be relieved of employment if my bosses found out.

I tell everyone if I think they can handle it. There are some who think nudists (especially nudist males) are just perverts or exhibitionists. If they are judgmental and they don't understand, I don't tell them.

A devoted nudist since a young age ... never ashamed of my naked habits ... and not worried about who knows and who doesn't - I still don't feel the urge to tell everybody.

I share my naked lifestyle on a need to know basis. E.g. friends who are traveling with me are likely to encounter me without clothes - so they need to know ...

I am sure my friends have sides to their personalities they don't want to reveal to others. Not because they are ashamed. But because they feel there is no need for everyone to know everything about them.

My friend's decision not to share everything with me has no impact on my respect for them. I am perfectly fine with not knowing what they don't want to share with me.

For us we are public business people in the midst of conservative church's on every corner, the need to eat is a motivating factor to keep it on a need to know basis. It is what it is until retirement.

I agree with Rockdad. We both work with the public (she's a teacher). You must be very careful because so many consider nudists to be perverts and exhibitionists. We can't take the chance. Some day we may tell everyone, but not now.

I guess for the same reason I always cringe when I tell someone the "Bible" is the best compiled book of fiction ever written. People just can not accept what is different outside their surroundings. They don't like their "comfort zone" challenged.

I don't tell people I'm a nudist, I just ask them if they'd like to see my white bits after my holidays, take my shoe off & show them the sole of my foot
I agree. It would not be a good business move on my part. Unfortunately!

The people we have told about us being nudist have all had positive reactions towards us.  Most say that is really cool

I understand why others who have work related reasons don't shout it out for all to hear that they're nudists, its sad that is ow some employment can affect what you like to do in your own time, its your life after all.

I don't shout it out for all to hear either, but I don't hide the fact that I'm a nudist, I love living nude and have no reason to be ashamed of my preference. If asked I'll tell people the truth and if they wish to know more I'll explain why I am a nudist or answer anything else about why I like life naked. It makes life a lot easier, I don't have any worries about who might see me naked at a nude beach or online. Its sad that its not so easy for every nudist to be like that should they wish.

This question has been asked in a similar discussion before. There are many reasons why telling all one is a nudist is not for all to hear.  1/ it is very personal. 2/ Religious fanatics and other political fanatics persecute people they think are different and abnormal. 3/ professional people would be at a disadvantage in some cases if it were known they were nudists. 4/ just plain shy. 5/ the society norm of textiles versus society's abnormal view of nudity outside of certain accepted situations. 6/ our societies skewed notion of nudity and sex.
Hopefully some day in some utopia everyone no mater who or what they are will all be acceptable.
So it remains up to each of us just how far we wish to leave our comfort zone in tell people we are nudists.

Personally, I think for many it's fear of the unknown, the fear of rejection, job loss, etc, etc.  I am proud to proclaim and have done so to others I'm a nudist and to date have not faced rejection though no one I've told has joined me though three have expressed interest in at least learning more, surprisingly all have been women.  None of the men I've told I'm a nudist have expressed any interest at all in trying nudism for themselves.

Twenty years ago we were going to a Christian book conference in Palm Springs. I suggested we stay at the Terra Cotta Inn. My wife was reluctant thinking I may have gotten into a sex cult. When we arrived and she saw how ordinary everyone was she relaxed and we had a great time. I almost cried when we had to leave.

The point being the general population always perceives nudism as sexual because its been beaten into them for decades. Any partial nudity you see in the media is connected with looking sexy and sometimes slutty. Any TV shows that use a nudist resort for an episode always play up the embarrassment part. The general population needs to see how incredibly dull we are and that orgies are not happening all the time. That would be our job.

Because so many people think nudists are perverted sex deviants.

Some day we may tell everyone, but not now.
With all the media tech that's all around us all now, could you imagine the uproar if the students got wind of any teacher, male or female, being a nudist on here. The pictures would spread like wild fire throughout the school and beyond. another teacher's career is shot to hell, all because of a life choice. You know as well as everybody, it only takes one mean kid with a hate-on. So why ask them to risk all that and deny them the oppurtunity to be a part of all this.

Yes. I'm well aware of the fact that you can't tell who is what until you chat or message and that's why we have that option here. Don't deny all because of a few are trolls. Everybody deserves a fair chance.

Hello I am under no circumstances ashamed of being a nudist. However, because I am a public official and work in a very public job I can not broadcast the fact I am a nudist and have been for many, many years. If I was not to lose my job and my lively hood I would not care who knows that I am a nudist and will continue to be a nudist.

I have the same problem with job related issues.  We live in a very conservative community that has been trying to close the nude beach for years.  As of late that seems to have waned a little but it only takes one politician wanting to make a name for himself to bring a whole lot of trouble down on us.  Once I hit 55 and can retire that will be a different story.

In the locker room at the gym I am nude for as long as possible. A few have asked about my shaved appearance and no tan lines. I just tell them I am a nudist!
A better question would be  Why are people so afraid to admit that they are nudists?
I am not afraid to tell anyone I am a nudist, I never hide the fact that I am.  On the other hand I do not have a neon lit sign in my front yard that advertises  "Nudist Lives Here".  I also do not go out of my way to let others know I like red wine, enjoy dogs or hate broccoli.  It is just another facet of my life.
