The Long-Haired Bearded Dude With The Shotgun...{Hello}

Return to Discussions

I just {September 2014} joined the group and uploaded a photo. Howdy everyone. The shotgun I am holding in the photo I uploaded is a 410, given to me by an uncle in Indiana a looooong time ago. {I only fired it a few times soon after I received it.}
I have been wanting to get the shotgun 'checked-out' for SOME TIME NOW so I could fire it again. Some of the mechanical bits do not work all that well, and not being a gunsmith I would rather have a 'professional' do that sort of work. I realize it is not exactly an 'elephant gun', but it is mine, and reminds me of that uncle {now deceased} who gave it to me all those years ago.
Lastly, my 'Thanks' to MaxBear for 'putting up with me' while I was trying to u/l a photo. I seem to have *misplaced* my digital camera and tripod {I STILL - as of 30 September 2014 - have NOT found them}. Since I am now divorced and live alone, I have no one here to photograph me, so that camera - using an intervallometer - is the only way I can photograph myself. {I do not think I can teach the cat to press the shutter button...LOL} I FINALLY managed to take a selfie using my cell phone last night. CELL PHONE SELFIES *USUALLY* do not come out well, due to I am holding the camera at arms length, which is usually NOT 'far enough away' from me to properly frame the photo, but I got *lucky* this time.
Okay, 'nuff rambling. I am done....
{EDIT: I had taken a shower before shooting that 'selfie' photo of myself with the shotgun. If my hair looks wet in that photo, well, it was....}

RE: The Long-Haired Bearded Dude With The Shotgun...{Hello}

I can identify with both you guys.
AE53: I too have a .410 SxS double, as does my brother in law. Many years ago he and I used to take them out to his grandfather's farm where we would light off a cherry bomb in the barn and then shoot pigeons when they flew out. The .410's made it sporting and they were harder to hit than you might think.
Creekgeek: I once picked up an old Auto5 16ga from a guy who was going into a divorce and needed money. It was in rather rough shape on the outside but very nice inside and bore. I sent it off to Browning and they totally reconditioned it including a beautiful blue job. They don't redo stocks so I did that part myself. I tend to shoot head-high so the shotguns that I really do best with are the humpbacks like the Auto5 and the old SxS doubles with a lot of drop in the stock. That A5 16ga has put a lot of pheasant and quail in the pot for me, along with a turkey or two.
