Best massage oil?

Return to Discussions

Any recommendations for massage oils? What are people using? We had some oils we purchased from a now defunct business, so no longer available.

It's tough to say what is the best massage oil to use, as different people use different oils/lotions for a variety of reasons such as loyalty, convenience, econimics, availability, etc.

For the most part, any kind of oil can be used to provide a massage, but what you need to be aware of is any kind of allergic or potential reactions to skin or any of the other senses that could be caused from the oil itself or any added ingredients in it. As noted, any kind of supermarket brand of oil (Almond, Coconut, Corn, Olive, baby, Canola, vegetable, etc.,) can be used, but a good amount of people have peanut allergies so you may wish to avoid that one. Scented oils from evelyn & Crabtree, bed Bath & Beyond and the like should be used with caution as the chemical ingredients in them to give them scents may cause irritation to genitals and to those with sensitive skin.

in my practice I use regular store brand Canola oil, and also Good & Gather brand Organic Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil that I purchase from Target, which is very cost effective. I had been getting the 365 brand Organic expressed Virgin Coconut Oil from Whole Foods in the plastic jar which was surprisingly affordable considering, but they no longer seem to have it. By the way, if you're ever in the Viginia Beach area and can find you way to The Heritage Store, I HIGHLY recommend their store brand of sweet Almond Oil, which will run you a penny or two, but it's quite worth it.. When not using it, store it in the refrigerator to maintain it's freshness.

Going over all of this, I'm seeing this may be more than I meant to say, but I hope it's helpful.

Nothing fancy.

For massage oils, we use Neutrogena Lightweight Body Oil and plain old baby oil. We also use fragrance-free cocoa butter creams.
