How to feel more comfortable being nude?
Return to DiscussionsI have just started getting into the nudist lifestyle, but I have some hesitancy undressing all the way...fine with taking shirt off and pants off, but still hung up on taking everything off. Is there anyone else who was in this boat when they started? If so, any ideas on how to get more comfortable being completely nude?
When you're used to wearing something all the time, it can feel "uneasy" at first when you try just hanging around naked. I think that's fairly normal.
I used a fairly straight-forward approach. In order to get over that "weird feeling", I resolved to take off my clothes the moment I got home, put them away, and leave no other clothing hanging around the house. Of course it helped a lot that I was living by myself at the time. I was simply determined to get myself used to being naked. Removing all clothing from my sight helped.
It didn't take very long. After a while of this I actually got to the point where getting naked the moment I got home became easy.
It did create some issues at first when my then-GF moved in; because I would naturally get naked the moment I got home, and she would come home from work...and I'd be naked! But after a while she got used to it and I didn't have to "break my habit."
I believe this is excellent advice, mirroring how I began my own journeyby being nude as often as I could when at home. Despite being sure of my love for nudity, it initially felt a bit odd, and I wondered if it was weird or even inappropriate. Looking back now, I chuckle because wearing clothes at home feels more unusual to me. After all this time, I'm more conscious of wearing clothes than being naked.
When I started college and lived independently, I would always strip down whenever I was at home, whether I was studying, watching TV, or doing household tasks. Since I didn't have a roommate, I didn't have to worry about anyone else being around. I even recall challenging myself to remain nude for entire weekends when I didn't need to go out. This habit really made me less conscious of wearing clothes and, honestly, made it feel completely normal.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, when I first went nude socially with another nudist one-on-one, I felt a bit anxious. However, it was easier to undress since I had been doing it alone for several years by then. I soon moved on to skinny-dipping at legal spots, visiting resorts, and mingling with large groups of naked people like myself. Fast forward to today, and it seems I'm usually the first to strip down and the last to put my clothes back on.
