Spring planting
Return to DiscussionsWe are fortunate in having a large garden we can be nude in. We plant a variety of things but already have corn and potatoes planted and up. It has been warm enough to send most of the planting time working the garden nude. Please update us on how your garden is doing or what you are planning.
I am doing less planting than I did due to getting a new job but I have sown some tomatoes, cucumbers etc and they have come up. Yes I did manage to sow some naked in the greenhouse but working outside naked has been too cold other than the odd day or two.
Our winter garden is still producing more cabbage & collards but will soon be gathered as a final crop. It actually did well & survived our 17F cold snap. Its also been good eating; nothing like fresh out of the garden greens. They were also a hit at the potluck dinner! Anyway, part of the garden has been replanted with eggplant but a late freeze beat them up pretty bad, but 5 of 6 survived along with the equally damaged tomatoes. Maybe well try squash again or possibly zucchini; LOL, well see whats on sale! Wish us luck!
Speaking of the garden, I just had one of our resident rabbits come by the back door & run for safety under the raised bed (literally) garden to hide. There it sat for several minutes. I went inside to ask the wife if she would cook the rabbit if it was *harvested*? The spot the rodent picked was about 50 feet from the back door, with a drop of about 5 feet to the ground with a porch post perfectly positioned to steady my trusty .177 caliber air rifle. Just about the perfect shot angle for this veggie stealing vermin. Her quick reply was *no*. Oh well, the bunny will live to decimate my garden on another day. You greenies out there can all start humming the tune from Fern Gully.
