Return to DiscussionsI drove by the trail head of one of the nearby hiking trails and noticed not a single car in the lot. I'm not sure why as it is a perfect fall day here on Southern California. So, I thought, what a great time to do my first naked hike?
What a feeling. A little daring, I must admit. But so much more enjoyable than wearing clothes. Of course, I could say that about anything, right!?
Can't wait to do it again.
Love hiking nude! Best feeling ever to be naked in nature. If there is the remote possibility of running into anybody, I carry my shorts with me so I can cover quickly. There are a few trails I hike that I'm reasonably certain I won't run into anybody soo I stash my shorts at the trail head. Even better having both hands free. I go out every day (weather permitting)
I love hiking nude when it's warm enough. I usually carry a wrap or short kilt to quickly put on if I meet other hikers (it's much easier than shorts, especially when I have muddy boots). Occasionally I hide everything at the start so have no way of covering up whilst hiking. One fun thing is the "Two car keys challenge". In this I hide a set of car keys at one end of a footpath; drive naked to the other end (maybe 2 or 3 miles away); and lock myself out of my car. So - I'm naked, a long way from home and locked out of my car with nothing to cover myself with. I'm obliged to hike the length of the footpath, retrieve the hidden keys and hike back, naked throughout.

I know from my own hikes that once you experience how great it feels to hike nude it is hard to do it any other way.
You said you went to one of the nearby hiking trails. I would be interested in knowing where you went as I also live in the San Fernando Valley.
Also was this on a weekend or weekday?
Where I normally go is a gated service road up by Lake Castaic. I have found that even on the weekend it is only lightly used.
I have been hiking there for almost 20 years.
I used to get nervous while hiking back to the car because there was no way of knowing if someone else was coming down the trail.
As time went on I got more comfortable with the idea of being seen nude. Eventually it did happen and I am glad to say with no negative response from the person who saw me.
Since then I have lost count of how many times I have been seen by textile hikers.
Unfortunately, in all that time, I have never seen another nude hiker.

I have hiked nude a number of times, and have enjoyed it, although I have not done it in a couple of years.
Usually, encountering others on the trail is largely dependent on the day of the week. Weekends are when most people are not working or out of school, and are free to hike, so you will encounter more hikers. Weekdays are less likely to meet others while hiking because they are working or in school, so weekdays are the best times to hike nude.
Those you run into sometimes are friendly, and open to your nudity, and you may get accepting comments like, "good way to get a tan" or "good way to stay cool". A bunch of them will want to pass the time talking about it and are interested. Also, some people are more accepting of those who hike in groups, and I am never sure why the difference, nude is nude alone or in groups.
I had only gotten a couple of negative comments, and will have shorts handy to cover up if they ask. There will be times when you encounter someone by surprise, and won't have time to do anything. One time for me, it was a group of scouts and their leaders, who came around the bend on hiking a trail, and on a hike where I could not get my shorts over my hiking boots without removing the boots. A couple of the scouts yelled things like I will go to hell for being naked, most of them giggled, the leaders just smiled and they all continued their hike. I now have shorts that will go over my boots. LOL

I used to know someone who would do something similar, except he carried his keys with him in his pack. We hiked a trail that was about 8 miles long, from one end to another. the return we did was on the mountain road, was maybe 5 miles. While I had shorts to put on for the hike on the road (Heck, we are in America, land of the free, home of the textile jerks. I am a chicken about people reporting nudity), he remained nude. We only saw a few cars, and no one seem to mind, though one guy was more vocal about seeing a naked person, we were never confronted by forest personnel or the highway patrol. Following the hike, we climbed into his car, and drove back to the house... nude... but by that time, it was after sunset.
