Naked Hiking Day - 2019
Return to DiscussionsI want to share my story of how I enjoyed Naked Hiking Day this year.
This year for the summer solstice, I decided that I really wanted to do some nude hiking. I love nature and being nude and the two combine to form a spiritual significance for me. I have researched this a bit and dont believe I am alone in sensing this and have found that the summer solstice is an especially significant for such an activity, so I decided to try to participate this year.
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of places that I can go to do this where I live (Indiana - State Parks crowded with people, ect.). So I decided to go to a nudists/naturist resort. I looked up the ones in my area and unfortunately, the choices were slim as well as what they had to offer with regard to hiking trails.
I ultimately got up early that morning and drove to a clothing optional resort which appeared to have significant acreage with some hiking trails. Once I got there, I found it was very much a campground with many semi permanent RVs camped there with what appeared to be a pretty tight group of regulars. No one was rude to me however and they did indeed have several miles of trails. I also enjoyed the pool while I was there.
I did a bit more hiking after laying in the sun a bit, but after a while I got the sense, as more regulars got out and about that the resort had reason for a adults only requirement it had. I sensed a definite sexually charged energy to it unlike other nude resorts I have visited which have been numerous. I have no problem with this and honestly believe this is could be a good thing at the right time for the right people, but this wasnt what I was looking for personally. I dont know if it was a swinger vibe or what else or perhaps I was simply being paranoid, but I chose to leave before anything of any real significance (externally or internally) happened.
However as I left, I found the experience left me someone perplexed and little disappointed and I thought about it. As I alluded, I have no problem with open sexuality between consenting adults and also believe there doesnt have to be the hard line between sexuality and nudity that many naturists feel. It simply wasnt what I was looking for that particular day but it did sort of killed my buzz for what I had been wanting.
As it WAS the longest day of the year and it was only 3pm, I still had plenty of time for more conventional hiking. I then chose to go to a State Park that was on my way home where I particularly like the ruggedness of the trails to do some hiking and contemplate my experience. Unfortunately as I arrived at the park a couple of hours later, dark clouds were rolling in and it appeared that rain would soon be coming. I thought about it a bit and decided that I didnt care and hit the trail as the parking lot was emptying and the last people were heading towards their cars. As I got on the trail and the rain began, I realized I had this entire park virtually to myself and that my nude hiking day didnt need to be over.
So, as soon as I got a bit deeper in, I found a long out and back trail and stripped. What followed was one of the most fantastic nude experiences I have ever had. The mixture of the colder rain and the warm forest quickly produced an enchanting haze that surrounded me. The sound of the rain hid my own walking noise and I was continuously scaring up squirrels and rabbits as I walked. At one point as I stood near a stream, a young fawn still bearing white spots completely startled me as it ran up to within 5 feet of me. I actually thought it was going to walk up and let me pet it before it seemed to think better of it, and suddenly ran off.
Never before had I felt so completely a part of nature as I hiked nude for a couple of hours in the steady rain. I never encountered a soul and it was wonderful.
Since June 21st, I have thought much of my day both the time at resort and my reaction to vibe at it, as well as my hiking at the State Park. My reaction to the resort is that I believe I want to visit the resort again someday and explore the vibe there more, perhaps attempt to talk to some regulars and better understand what if anything is actually going on there. I can definitely appreciate nearly any environment where I can be publicly nude without fear and I sort of appreciate that the regulars were making no attempt to repress sexuality that I think is often in such environments anyway.
As far as my State Park nude hiking experience, I believe it was so special that I can't simply recreate it. I can't help but to try however, but I am also very grateful for the experience I had.
Thanks for sharing that. You hit on many things that I have observed, but I have not been to a resort with that sexual undercurrent. The place I usually go just has a good naturist vibe to it. I am lucky being in Colorado where I find a lot of good spots for naturist hikes. Being in nature without a textile barrier does provide for an extra level of connection. One part is the extra sensory input, but you also slow down and are much more aware of your surroundings. I have also found that animals are a lot less concern about a naked person. I've walked up on elk and basically had them ignore me. If I had been clothed, I suspect they would have seen me as a threat. Anyway, hope you have more naked hiking opportunities in the future.
Sounds like a nearly jdeal day, thanks for sharing. I love to hike, but have as yet not tried it nude as I live in a very populous state. It is on my bucket list! I always love the connection with nature when away from the crowds...
Brilliant account. I was out in Sherwood Forest UK yesterday with 11 guys but it was just a basic walk. Would love to get immersed into a deep forest with more elements and with company that enjoyed that spirituality of nature. Fairly rare opportunities in the UK. We've got our moorlands though and that gives it a different type of spirituality - being open to the expanse of sky. Thanks for sharing.
