Spring Hiking in the Rocky Mountains
Return to DiscussionsI have been out for three naked snowshoe hikes so far this spring. This is the first year I have tried this. Zip off pants are key for this. I have decided that on a warm day, this is some of the best nude hiking you can do. You don't have to worry about trails, and there are a lot fewer people out. You can pretty much explore the hills freely, free of textile. The down sides - falling can be refreshing, which is good or bad depending on the air temp, and on the snow the sun can bake you and burn you places you would not think you could burn. If you are out too long liberal application of sunscreen is important. I'm looking forward to getting out a few more times.
Good on you for getting an early start on the spring. I've used snowshoes quite a bit over the years, never nude, and I must admit it's not my favorite mode of transportation. A mile on snowshoes is nothing like a mile on foot or even skis. Your obviously pretty fit if your snowshoeing for fun. Enjoy your spring, it looks like it will be a few more weeks before I'm able to get any outdoor natural time.

True, A two mile snowshoe is like a four mile hike, and it is just awkward walking. However, the nice thing about spring is the snow is compacted and you don't sink in much, if any. You can just about walk on the snow without snowshoes, but then you hit a spot where you post hole and sink to your crotch. It's better to a have the snowshoes on. The snowshoes also give you traction for the up and down hills on the hard snow.
