Gym Reopening
Return to DiscussionsMy gym in Bucks County, PA recently reopened now that Covid is down substantially in the area.
While it will be good to be able to use the equipment, exercising dressed is going to feel strange for a while.
For the past 4 months, I have been doing light body weight and band workouts at home, usually nude and always shirtless.
I wouldnt. I have doubts of using the gym, once it teopens and have found things like biking, yoga, and running up and down stairs; to replace my gym membership. I would still miss doing some leg exercises, like squats, but I am certain that I could find an alternative.
Arizona closed its gyms for a second time earlier this month, even though the Governor's office couldn't provide gym owners any data on Covid infections being traced to their line of business. Florida gyms are open. I am fortunate to have the ability to telecommute so we've been staying at our place in Fort Lauderdale. And of course, working out here. Government officials in Florida have stated publicly the lack of data tracing virus infection to gyms is the reason gyms are open in their state. If anything, this shines a glaring unflattering light on how poorly our government officials have coordinated a response to this health crisis
Here in Texas gym reopen in phases. First it was just the workout area and restrooms. They then allowed pools and shower and locker rooms to open. And later saunas, whirlpools. Granted gym can do not have to open up at all or just parts. As of the 2nd of July, we now have a mandated state wide mask requirement when you are in a public building so mark are required at gym. However, been a member of three (3) gyms, one small local and two nation wide chains, the mask thing is not enforced 100%. The small local gym, they 'try' to enforce it but still less than 50% have a mask on properly, if they have one on. One of the chain does enforce it 100% while the other not really. The one that does enforce it, they've had incidents where staff members have been hit in the face by individuals that refused to wear mask. Two actually ended up in the hospital and according to the news, the gym members are been charged with a minor crime. I don't have the equipment nor the space to workout at home, so the gym is my only source of training/working out. Yes, I do disenfect everything before using it. At first I saw many doing so but now 2 months into it, not many do. As someone else pointed out, the lack of tracking does not help the situation of the knowing where the virus is spreading, but with precautions and safe protocols, you can live life and not be paranoid that it's going to attack you once you leave your home.
I don't think I will ever go back to the gym. Having set up a basic home gym, the result has been positive. My workouts have become more intense - less weights yes, but more reps and less rest between sets, and being able to train naked (with a strategically placed mirror) adds a 'feel good ' factor like none other that increases the intensity and pleasure of my workouts. I have lost nearly 10 lbs- flab not muscle - and I can begin to see my abs again!
Just finished a nude workout in my basement. I did pullups, situps, inclined bench presses, curls and flys. Short rest between sets. I haven't been using the weights that much, so I'm easing back into it. Limited to three sets of each, but I plan to increase that going forward.
