So liquor price is the same , no matter where you buy it within the state . Stores can charge more , but they can't charge less than that minimum price . Equals everyone out . No matter where you live . Figure i use it in mixed drinks where you don't taste the difference between the brands , why pay more ?

I definitely go cheap when I am mixing because I agree with you that the brand difference is tough. But my cheap bourbon is Bullet. But if you are drinking neat or in the rocks, then there are some great reasonably priced bourbons out there. Basil Hayden is a favorite sipping bourbon of mine.
I try and keep well stocked with my whiskey! Not sure when you might have guests or... a bad day! :DDD
Crown Royal, Jameson, Makers, Bulleit I'm not too much of a whiskey snob. I try them all and like most. Not a single malt Scotch fan. I do like some blended Scotches. Usually neat, sometimes with a rock or two.
Okay, I am the opposite of a snob, I am totally uneducated. In general, I do not care for the taste of hard liquor, but I have pondered light drink or two in the evening, mainly due to the health benefits for one's heart, as reported by most doctors and the AMA. My elderly mother has an extensive whiskey and bourbon collection, but when I try them, I not only find them dis-tasteful, but harsh and even bitter. I have only tried to drink them "neat" without an additive like water or on the rocks. I have heard that in order to make whiskey or bourbon smooth and to bring out it's flavor, that one needs to mix it or at least drink it on the rocks. So my questions for all of you whiskey Connoisseurs are these:
1) Is the taste of whiskey an acquired taste? Am I simply ill experienced to appreciate this drink?
2) Am I in fact, drinking it wrong and should avoid drinking it "neat"? How should I try them?
3) For someone such as myself, who simply wants to enjoy a finger or two in the evening and who wants a SMOOTH drinking experience, what whiskey or bourbon do you recommend I try? I do not care about price.

I'm a Jack Daniel's Tennessee Squire so I drink Mr. Jacks whiskey. But I also like Canadian Mist (or any Canadian for that matter). I have a bottle of Laphroaig, pronounced lafroy, of which I have a dram every now and again but not too frequently. It is just about the smoothest scotch I've ever had.
One has to be careful with good whiskey or one will not know when to stop.
I think I'll have a little right now.
