Are there any nudist excursions on typical cruises?
Return to DiscussionsWe booked a cruise on Princess for a Caribbean cruise and one of the excursions is for adults only. Other than no children, there is no explanation of why it is adults only. I know Viking is adults only now, but that does not mean clothing optional. So are there excursions of a clothing-optional nature when on-board it is not clothing optional?--Alaska Joe
I've done many Caribbean cruises on Princess (and other lines too). Adult only hasn't been clothing optional for any excursion. It usually means just no kids running around, maybe lots of drinks available, risky activities included, etc. But (unfortunately), no clothing optional excursions. Exception of course is the Big Nude Cruise Boat - but that's never Princess.
Try Bare Necessities out of Austin texas. They run a few cruises in carribean., Mediterranean and South Pacific. Big nude boat 24 is on carnival out of tampa. 25 will be on norwegian Pearl? I think out of Miami. Bare necessities.com we enjoyed the 23 cruise and are going back for 24.
We did a textile Greek Islands cruise and while there were no advertised nude shore excursions, they did have the standard beach shore excursions. We took one to Elia Beach in Mykonos. They warned that nudity might be seen, so dont go to the end of the beach. We ignored the warning, and spent the entire excursion nude. We saw a few others from our ship at the end of the beach as well. Some were gawkers but others were there to be nude as well.
We have also been on multiple Caribbean cruises that stop in St. Martin and always take a cab to Orient Beach. Not an actual shore excursion, but we have met others from our ship there as well and have convinced a few newbies to try spending the day nude.
But as others have said, if you want to be sure of having official nude shore excursion opportunities, cruise with Bare Necessities. Then your bigger problem is that the nude shore excursions sell out real fast!
Textile Cruise ships have always stopped in St. Martin/Sint Maarten. One of the excursions, we learned, was to "Orient Beach where you can visit the nude beach." It brought many a curious textile to either check the place out or partake in the nude experience. We've been on many textile cruises and none of them have ever had an excursion that involved or offered nudism.
We have good friends we met at Club Orient. Their first cruise was textile. They stopped at St. Marten/Sint Maarten and learned of the excursion to Club Orient. They both agreed to go and see for themselves. They were dropped off down the beach but had a view of the Club Orient beach and decided to walk down for a closer look. Have way down the beach, our female friend stopped at an empty lounge, took off her clothes and told her husband, "I'm staying here!" He followed suit and by the time we'd met them in 2001, they'd already visited Club O annually for 5 years. We'd all still be visiting Club O annually if it hadn't been destroyed several years ago.

Our first cruise that included St. Martin, we did a shore excursion that went around the island and stopped at the butterfly farm. You could see the beach from the farm and someone said it was a nude beach. That stuck and several years later we flew to St. Martin and stayed at Club Orient as our introduction to social nudity. After the hurricane we again stopped in St. Martin on a cruise. No excursions to Orient Beach (it was only 1 year since the hurricane) so we took a cab. There was another couple sharing the cab who started out gung-ho to see Orient, but chickened out when we got there and asked to be dropped off in Philipsburg. We got out at Orient Village and walked down to the Club O section of the beach. On the way we saw Louis (owner of Chez Louis bikini shop). His shop was destroyed in the hurricane, so he was selling pareos on the beach. We bought two and continued down to the nude section. Mrs. J&C still wears those pareos to the dances on occasion at our home club.
If you do book an official shore excursion to Orient Beach, there is a 99% chance they won't even mention a nude beach (don't want to offend the textiles) and you will get dropped off in Orient Village. Turn right when you get to the beach and walk to the end to find the nude section.
